I once shot a small rifle at a carnival in Austria, it was a single shot bolt action (the bolt simply locked the bullet in the barrel, really primitive) and it shot tiny cartridges.

I wonder if these are legal to buy in Europe without a license? I have a shooting range next to my house and they have an alley for shooting small caliber rifles.

I am unsure of the specifics of European gun laws as there are many diffrent ones for each country. Check with a local gun shop before doing anything. However, I would say that you are in the green if you are going to have it in Swiss border. The Swiss have some pretty lax gun laws. The militiary there actually gives its citizens a gun! My kind of country!

YES...the gun law in Austria is somehow special. Everything over 90cm length can be bought without a licence but has to be registered . Of course this excludes military (full auto) weapons. On the carnivals they usually use 4.5mm rifles.

In regards to the Swiss Military: Everone who's in the Military (mandatory for males I think over 18?) has his weapon and ammo at home because they have to go for training camps (I think) once a year. After they severed a certain time (which the majority achieves around 35) they can buy the gun for a couple of bucks...

hope this clarifies a few things...

    Ciao

    Sounds like a .22

As I recall from my days in England, you can have shot guns for hunting and a .22 which was popular with target shooting.

Well, since i am not a Swiss citizen or permanent rezident I'll have to check.
However I know that I can purchase a pistol if I only keep it at the gun club.
