Looks to me like there is a blanket or towel in the trunk and there is a towel or pad on the roof. If I'm seeing something that is not there, and there is no protection, then I would agree with post #75
That picture reminded me of the time my car was in for some minor work at a local mechanic. I stopped by to see how things were going and when I walked in the UPS driver was there making a delivery and boxes were stacked all over my Ferrari. I don't think the mechanic or the UPS driver will ever forget the explosion!!!!!
It's stored outside in the Houston air, it doesn't take long to have them rust over. To your poinit it was at the Art Car Festivities, in 2023 with new sponsorship from DeBeers Galleria Houston. At that point the Goodyears were shot, and with my mom deteriorating heatth it got "set aside" for tires. My son bought fresh rubber (Hankook actually!) and I started thru a Resore to Running effort, that ..thankfully many say, did not clear the fuel system. The belts were indeed many "Three Year changes" out of date, but MY OMs say to Check Them visually at every 6K miles. Replacement was at 52K miles originally and this car only shows 39K miles. Every day has risks. Mom died. She hated this car, and the other two as well. Found all the pictures I was proud of..(Mario, Child Advocates, the smoking hot Venezualan at COTA,. in the drawer cleaning her house.) Goodyear is having a toyugh year after buying Cooper, they no longer make a suitable 16" Eagla at all. TR ownerrs have faced this for a long time. So, Hankook it is!! Yes Robert, some of those braided hoses are in fact fuel lines, hence the cmplete refresh. He's going thru the distributors now which is a "Lubrication" interval. It's doubtful there's a bushing wear problem with so many people seeing tha car over the past 30 years.
I will inquire the Dates on the removed Belts, as I really can't recall at the last Major Repair if they changed them or not. JRV s dead Ferda s dead. Vintage Car Solutions had it for a time, but were nowhere near this level of attention to their work. They are still around, see them at Keels and Wheels. #20405 was serviced for Fuel Lines and a flywheel #22641 was in Austin most of the time, where Moorespeed cared for it. They did a clutch in #22127 as well. I spoke briefly with Moorespeed today, on a P car issue.
I picked up this car once, with the rear view mirror knocked of the front glass. The drivers headrest shatered by some fat ass pushing himself out of th car. Clutch cable broken of disconnected from the console operating lever. Drivers seat had THREE good bolts holding it in, as the forth one had broken off in the frame below the floor. Good help is hard to find. I'll pull these seats when I get ot back, to attach them effectively. Seat Belts are well expired too! 1977 was a lot of years ago.
I don't know why everyone gets all up in arms about changing the timing belts. When I got my 308 I pulled her in the garage shut the motor off. Then cut the belts off with my pocket knife. The tensioner bearings made a little noise but did not wobble so I just sanded the rust off them, they sure looked pretty. Anyway I through on some slightly used belts I had laying around, they looked to be the same size. For tension I used a 5ft pry bar and while I pulled down with all my 250lb my wife used a 3ft barker bar to torque down the nuts. She did strip one but nothing JB weld cant pix. Anyway it mostly runs, not sure why the cam gears wobble like they do. Maybe they need some JB weld too. Any of you guys need those belts change just come by the house with a case and I will take care of it for you. P.S. for when I change them I wait till I see cracks in the rubber. If you want to extend the life of the belt once it starts cracking just pour some baby oil on them.
