Where there is a will there is a way. The question is whether it is the right thing to do or not. The fuel tank has to be removed, looks like alternator pulled out and would you want to do this on jack stands or is a person going to puchase a lift? And when it comes time to install the belt is it going to be bent into questionable shapes?

And we have to ask ourselves is it just a belt service or is it a service/inspection. I know on my 3.2 with the engine in service I can't get to or see everything. That is why I want to pull my engine on the next service. Is it required,? No. Is it a good idea,? Maybe.

I've seen comments through here from shops that they like to pull the engine on our Mondials every other or third service. Greater access, greater inspectability.

On a 20+ year old car, maintenance isn't only following the maintenance schedule, it's also getting in there and finding what else is becoming compromised. For example, an oil weep from an oil cooler line that will turn into a leak 3 weeks after service and will not get noticed with engine in car. Or a vaccuum, fuel or cooling line that's been rubbing against another object in engine bay, etc.

I guess there will always be a conflict at the extremes between those who feel these are Hondas that require only the bare minimum of maintenance vs those who feel the engines require a full external scrub down and restoration every 3 years.

Thankfully each owned car has only one person who needs to make these choices and those choices don't impact the rest of our cars physically.
