    Hello all,
I am preparing to torque my cam cover nuts and would like to know if there is anything I should watch out for.

    Basics to me are:

Nut torque of 10 ft lbs

Torque sequence of inner to outer

Smile for a job well done.

    Any other comment or suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Lester

Reference for the 10 ft lb is from reading threads for the last hour so. Some claim 6 ft lbs but others refer to Ferrari's general rule for a fastener of this size and pitch. As the experienced ( Steve Magnussen) one I will gladly change to the 6.5 ft lbs rating.

This "rule" also has to take into account the materials of the thread and nut and the situation. Putting a steel 6mm nut onto a steel 6mm headed bolt to clamp something = sure 10 ft-lbs is OKish, but the 6mm cam cover studs, and the 6mm cam cap studs, are mounted into a relatively soft Aluminum casting -- very easy to pull the stud out of the cylinder head.

Hence the danger of depending on an internet chat room for important specifications. Some good, some bad. Take your chances.

Factory manuals or at least reprints are out there. The single best book Ferrari ever printed for the V8 drive train is the Mondial 8/ QV book. It has the added feature of covering the specs for the 2 valve and the 4 valve engines.

    It shows .9 Kgm for valve covers. 7.233 x .9 = 6.5097 Ft lbs.

Thank you gentlemen. Anything else top be aware of? A particular pattern to torquing down? Which breed of chicken do I need to sacrifice?

I’ve only done this about 12 or so times. Same rhythm every time…. 6.5 ft lbs, circler pattern from center outwards, green gaskets clean and dry….. never had any issues.

Correct. Nothing on either surface. Same with Transmission and Oil pan. Clean, dry and torque correct. Never had an issue with any of them. Green gaskets.
