Cam shaft end plate gasket install question

Stat-o-seal washers are wonderful but a little pricey. That said the cost of no leaks is priceless. Here is the link to where you can buy them:

Thread sealer would not do the same job so in the absence of Stat-o-seal washers you can put a little RTV sealant on the threads to seal them up. The problem is not just the threads (thread sealer would be fine if that were the only issue) it is the interface between the stud and the washer that often leaks.

As for removing the covers I use a flat head screwdriver that has been sharpened to a nice thin tip (not changing the width). I insert the screwdriver against the visible edge of the gasket and tap lightly with a hammer. This will break the seal that the parts have and allow the cover to come off. If done carefully you will do no damage to the aluminum castings. Once off I use a sharp razor blade to scrape off all remnants of the old gasket and a little solvent on a rag to clean up any residual gunk. Prep is everything when trying to avoid leaks.

 

I found these Thredseals from Parker, the maker of Stat-o-seals work great. Cured the dreaded timing chain tensioner adjuster bolt leak that drips on the alternator.

I used a ThredSeal on the timing tensioner and seems to hold the oil in ok.
