    Does anyone know if the valve/cam covers on an 82 308GTSi were simply polished or were they painted with the same type of paint found on the plenum? I've seen photos of cars whose covers appeared painted to match the plenum but I see no indication that mine had ever been coated. I've just had the plenum removed to be powder coated (will change the hoses under it) and would have both covers done at the same time. I assume that all black cars had black plenums and red cars equiped with red. Is this always the case? My mechanic presently has a 84 modial QV that has its plenum in red. I'm totally lost here but would like to get it as correct as possible while I am detailing my engine and engine bay.

    if they are the same as my 80 GTSi they should be just aluminium finish. I powdwer coated mine Black because I liked the way the Black looked. but IIRC only the QV 4v engines had the red plenum paint. the plenum color is not matched to the cars exterior paint.

    Plenums went from aluminum to black on the 2Vi cars and then to red on the QVs. The 328s were red on top with aluminum sides.
    All 3X8 cars had aluminum colored valve covers. If you see one with red or black, it was done at some point by the owner. I like it and will do mine at the next major, but it wasn't done by the factory.

    the valve covers were never painted on any 308 from the factory

    1980 had an unpainted intake, 81-82 were black

    QV's/328's intakes were red with the raised areas unpainted

    I believe some of the original GT4's had black valve covers. The ones on the original display model are black. I have a picture of it somewhere. I'll try to find it and post. Robert Garvin has also posted the same picture here before though...
