To be fair; when one of our cam belts breaks we can all feel the pain in our wallets. Emotional response to cam belt failure is to be expected in this club. lol. Cheers mates. May your cams live long and prosper.
Lol! I guess you got me there, and I've got the receipts to prove it. It is so nice of you to offer 50% off for all of us poor 348 and 355 owners. It really makes the butt hurt less. Promo Code - SH#T
I didn’t say you were looking for opinions. I said that you posted on a public forum for everyone and anyone to see and will offer their opinion/theory as to what happened. And that’s exactly what happened….you received unsolicited opinions as to what “may” have happened. Lighten up, everyone is here to help, not turn this into a **** show.
Yeah but what did you think was going to happen? Fchater's send flowers? I say give you the benefit of a doubt because it sucks to be the recipient of a pooched head and any Ferrari lover would be a bit out of sorts...you deserve to vent. Shineken was just the unlucky guy who was in your way. Peace to you all...
I wonder if the belt choice had something to do with it, as it looks like the blue marker Dayco belt not the OEM Ferrari ones. Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but you’ll be back on the road soon enough. The yellow marked Ferrari Dayco belts are of a much higher quality from what I have researched - sure a lot of people think a belt is a belt but the are differences in the manufacturing and quality control due to the nature of the F355 engine.
If my belt breaks; yes I will expect flowers from you along with about 40 hours of your time to walk me through the process of fixing it. Thanks in advance.
Man I can't get over this. This is one of the reasons why I don't drive my car and easily one of my biggest fears. I'm so sorry that this has happened. Did you check the pulleys for any runout or damage?
I'd rather drive my car and this happen than not drive it! These cars want to be driven, and they're too much fun to park and look at
The longer you let the belts settle in one position the harder they will get and increase the risk of breaking at the next start up.
Rattarossa I with you on this one. I drive often and I drive hard. These cars are like hot women; they need to be heated up and tossed around pretty damn often, or they stop acting nice.
thanks for the post Bill went through similar last year. I assume your stock covers were on so for me I feel it would be hard for a foreign object to get in there unless you remember dropping something Which I am sure you would have reported. I just think it’s ****ty luck but as with mine not all that big a deal. I might have some spare parts from mine if your tight on budget to give ya. when I redo my original head(I bought a complete and installed) I am going with something James did with his valves Pm me if you want me to check it out
**** that, drive your car and enjoy Paul. This is "one in a million" I reckon. Life is too short, drive your car and enjoy and if it happens, it happens.
Fair point. This year I plan to get the car going again. I need to pull the motor to do the service but there is no one around me with a lift that I can use. I have to find another way.
Right. Listen to Pap, Paul. Drive and enjoy your car. I bet your daily driver has an interference engine too. Do you worry about that car too?
Ok, fair enough mate. Get it done if and when you can and enjoy. I wish you all the best with it mate.
To be fair, I have Fabspeed headers and no wrap or heat shielding. High flow Cats and a Tubi exhaust. It's been that way since 2009, 35,000 miles and two engine out services. My belts, so far, have not exploded.
Personally, i’d take any reasonable pre caution to minimize risk starting off with Ferrari belts and shields. It’s like saying I slept with 100 different women with no protection and I never got any STD’s.
