Well, here are the pics from the latest trip to the mountains. First up, a journey 45 miles north to the Goodyear tire center in Fort Pierce for some tire balancing and arguin with the clerk about making a physical press of a credit card. I had a trailer detachment issue with my hitch at the exit from the Turnpike. Fun stuff!!! Then we were back on the road to meet Will Campbell and then head up to the cabin in North Carolina.

What do you get when you combine a car with no roof, no wipers, and lots of engine heat getting into the passenger space? When you clean the windows with quick detail spray, you get the following!!!
I think I know how a legally blind person feels when travelling now. The first windshield pic is when we first got into the rain, the second one is pretty much what the view was for about 25 miles. Scary stuff!

We persisted in driving around looking for dry roads to enjoy. It seemed like every road that brought us to a good driving area was dry, but then the rain would start up once we got to the curvy sections. Oh well, back to the cabin after about 360 miles total...

After a stormy night, the next morning looked much more promising. We decided to stay in north Georgia to avoid the rain. We only got a small sprinkle of rain when we got near the NC border. The best roads of the day were GA 197, GA 348, and GA 17/75. It was an intense day of very tight roads with very little traffic. Early in the drive a small bird apparently tried to fly in front of the Ginetta, and he did not make it. Fred said there was a cloud of red feathers swirling in his Lotus, and the bird was wobbling in the road. Sorry bird, I did not even see you!

We managed about 375 miles of drving the final day and got as far away as Hot Springs, NC (about 35 miles north of Asheville). We had a great mix of curvy highway, scenic parkway, and tight, twisty mountain roads for the day.
    It was a great one!
NC 209, and 215 were standout roads.

We made drives on two sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway, getting to a high elevation of around 5700 ft...
One of the stops was at 5150 ft...
These little cars get great mileage, even when using the skinny pedal excessively!
We had lunch in Asheville at the Urban Burrito where we could look down to keep an eye on the vehicles. Yummy!
Lots of little tunnels on the BRP to enjoy the sounds of the exhaust winding out.

The roads were just about empty everywhere we went. Out of approximately 1000 miles in the mountains I would guess that we were only restricted by traffic on about 40 miles of it total. After going down NC 209, I recall saying to Fred "We just passed through the small intestine!" Courteous drivers could see we were there to enjoy the roads and almost without exception would pull over to allow us to pass and continue at a pace that we would feel good about.
    Great roads for sure.

Keep in mind that all of the shots of the roads are taken while steering, shifting, braking, etc...
I like the first picture in the last post above the best. It shows nature (mostly) with just a hint of what the roads are like...

Oh, I almost forgot. After 2500 miles without incident, I got pulled over by the FHP when I exited the Turnpike about 1 mile from home for a toll violation. The sunpass had used up all of the money on it while I was on the Turnpike from I-75 with four axles. Anyway, after pulling me over and finding I had the wrong plate on the trailer, the officer was very nice and gave me a warning. I somehow mixed up the tag for the trailer with the one for Tacoma. This was the first time I have been stopped by the police since 1997!

You get it for free with a set of Falken tires from www.edgeracing.com . Unfortunately they are out of business now.

Or do you mean the wolf hat?
Fred heard that we had planned on driving what is known as the Wolfpen Gap route.
He thought the hat would make him blend in with any potential wolves...

Ha! I think he was using the gloves to make sure the tire balancing guy handled the trailer tires with care!

The roads on the trip were great since there was almost no traffic on them. The pictures show the typical scene driving through the area. Imagine driving from Palm Beach to Washington, D.C. with a turn every 100-200 yards on average!
