This listing on E-Bay is a dilemma for any classic 308 connoiseur: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4625896854&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT Can anyone sort out what this car IS exactly? It is advertised as a "1975 308 GTB." To add more confusion, the 308 GTB registry lists the chassis number as belonging to a 1978 308 GTB. http://www.308gtb.de/
I'm not sure what exactly that is, but that paint job and those wheels are grim...minus 10K from price for that travesty in my book.
It's got to be a 78 or later. My 77 vin is in the 20700 range so I would assume this to be either a 78 or 79. Also "looks" like a euro car with single dizzy unless converted. I also don't see the airpump which may have been removed. Can't tell if it has the tell tail line on the A post to determine if it is a glass car but I recall all 75's were glass so if they don't mention it I assume it is 77 or later but once again the vin tels the tail. My 2C
Euro steel bodied car (except for the GRP add ons ) with Koenig kit and BBS wheels, standard 80's mods. as the seller hasnt mentioned them he probably doesnt know and therefore may not know its a later car than he thinks! (my guess is he knows when the car was imported, but was TOLD it was manufactured in 75)
the above info in this other thread really helps. 22903, the car in question should be a steel gtb made in 75 or 76. i did not see the dry sump oil tank in the pics, but the car does appear to be a single dizzy euro. ugly as it is, i would take it for at/under 20k!!! http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78595
Carreaper, your kidding right? I thought you were always talking about dry sump cars. Easy way to tell is look for the oil fill cap. It isn't there. On 308s they are on the top of the rear valve cover. Plus it has the coolant tank on the right side. The large black tank you are seeing on the left is the oil tank.
So is the consensus is that it's wet sump or dry sump? Single dizzy means single distributor? Sorry I'm not totally down with all the lingo. Besides assuming that the chassis number is correct (stamped on a nonfactory issued aftermarket VIN plate), how can you tell that the car is steel and not fiberglass based on those pictures? I agree that this is a euro car. Shouldn't all euro 308's prior to 1980 be dry sump by default? OK, the hood is from a QV 308 car retrofitted on this model. The steering wheel is also factory correct Momo from post 1980 308 retrofitted on this car. How do we explain the oil temp gauge and clock in front of the shiftgate instead of mounted on the dash left of the driver? Did they really go through all the trouble of modifying the location of gauges to simulate a post-1980 308?
Needs paint and wheels for sure. And ?? Bolsters and leather show wear inconsistent with 27K miles I think. It could be just dried out though, not well kept. Actually the flairs kind of really suck too.
