Can anyone tell me what this 1982 Mondial 8 part is or what it should be hooked up to?

I recently purchased this 1982 Mondial and it runs well but I see this which I have circled in white on the photos and feel like it should be covered or hooked up to something? Anyone have an idea I’d sire appreciate it. Thanks

A small V-belt drive pulley mounts there on the end of the 1-4 exhaust cam to spin the air injection air pump (which is also missing). Your OM has some good technical figures showing the emission equipment that would be present on a stock US version (my guess would be that yours has all been removed as the 1-4 air injection manifold and EGR system also seem to be missing).

Thanks for the info! The car can run fine without those components, right? Should I at least put a rubber cap over the end? Thanks

Yes, but the catalytic converters (if still present) will suffer some (i.e.., become fouled and ineffective sooner). Hopefully, the air injection nozzles have also been removed and replaced with appropriate threaded plugs. If you do a search on something like "air injection nozzle" that should get you some prior threads on the subject as there is a right way, and a wrong way, to de-smog a 3.0L US 2-Valve. (Since your air injection manifolds are completely missing, my guess would be that you do have the appropriate threaded plugs replacing the air injection nozzles.)

It wouldn't hurt. IMO, it's best to just leave the pulley on the exhaust cam in place (even if the air pump is removed), as that way, the pulley, Woodruff key, and ring nut are not lost, and the threads and ground diameter stay protected..

Thanks much for the info. I’ll need to see if the catalytic converter is still there or if they removed those as well.

Don't worry, my Mondial 8 looks exactly the same. It's the air pump that is removed, it simply injects air into the exhausts AFTER going through the engine for lower emissions. A lot of our old cars have these pulled off. My cats have been removed over the years .

You're quite welcome! What is your chassis number? Mine is 41311. Not many made or in the USA for 1982.

No, never heard of that one. That's gotta be 55-60 miles from me I'm guessing.
