Hello there. The opinion of 355 owners would really help me. I am thinking of getting light mid engine car and 355 looks like one of the choices. Currently I am driving 05 Viper SRT-10 conv., 02 S2000 and sometimes my wife's 04 M3 conv. I absolutely love lightweigt S2000 but I miss some power. I absolutely love viper's low end torque but its weight and size is killing me sometimes. So I was thinking of getting a small lightweight car with the engine behind the driver - also to experience something different. Originally I ruled Fcars out as a posers car but a second look at F355 specs made me think. Now the question is whether this car can be driven hard. Like when I trash s2000 through the curves to Mt.Hamilton (bay area folks know...:) or when I do a 30 minutes session with Viper on a racetrack. Or whether it must be rather pampered through the miles and 'pedaled to the metal' only occassionally. I am used to take good care of my cars including reasonable mods, I put Motons (among others) on Viper, Bilstein PSS9 on S2k so the service requirements will be met. Can 10 yrs old F355 withstand 20k hard miles or not? Or would be 360 a better choice (don't like its size and weight)? Thanks! Oh - and it must be a vert, no stradales for me.

A common misconception that, on occasion, even I pondered. But since owning a Ferrari & getting a chance to learn how to pilot the beast... never again will I doubt!

These are amazing machines, right out of the box! They can be driven hard. As for "abuse"... I wouldn't say that any car holds up to abuse well.

Definitely Yes. All you need to do after starting off is to let the fluids, tires and brakes warm up. Then you can drive it as hard as you like.

Weight wise the 360 is lighter than the 355 but it is physically wider - so a small negative on tight mountain roads perhaps. The 360 is a little more sophisticated in its handling and slightly more powerful but the 355 is better looking and better sounding.

Did you tell the poster that he needs to invest in a good bucket of hair gel? 348 = man's car, the ultimate Ferrari hot rod. 355 = hair dresser's car, the poseur special. :p

Of note, the 360 is 3 seconds fater than the 355 at the Fiorano Track. Pretty remarkable for a car that has almost the same horsepower rating (400 vs 380).

Sorry but you are completely wrong, I own both and my SRT-10 will rape my 355 anywhere, any corner, anytime including over 110+ mph.

FYI a SRT10 pulls 1.01g on the skidpad, 0-60 in 3.9- 1/4 mile in 11.8 @124 MPH and tops out over 190+ mph.....how in the world could you possibly think a 355 could hang with a SRT10???

Lay off the Ferrari Kool-aid.............yes 355's are one of the finest cars every built, but they are nowhere near the level of performance offered by a SRT-10.

Now add a $8K Paxton supercharger to a SRT and you will be over 700 BHP.

I have to agree, I don't own a Viper but have driven them and had an incredible ride around the consumer reports test track (mini Lime Rock) and never felt anything like that. It's hard to beat that much torque and the HUGE tires to lay it down. But when it came down to it, I bought the 355 :D :D :D

Yes, I buy my hair gel in bulk at Costco and get my hair done before I allow myself into my F355.......... in addition 355F1 owners also need a manicure before they can properly flick their paddles.... ;) :p!!!

...this is true... though the 360 also needed an all new stiffer/lighter aluminum chassis, wind tunnel designed body shape, 6" wider track, variable intake and varible exhaust cam timming.....to achieve this 3 second margin. ;)

I hope you don't get me wrong, I really do love the 355 and the great guys that own/drive them. It's just like you said, the 360 is a more advanced machine.

You might look at the parts costs of the items you wear out on the track regularly - Ferraris require serious cash to maintain as road cars, and given the prices of rotors, adjustable suspension bits, clutch jobs, etc. it would ding your wallet regularly (may or may not be an issue, but having owned a couple of Chrysler products and now a Ferrari I'd say you want to know what you're getting into.) They are going on 10 years old, as you say, so you'll also be doing what we 328 owners have already done -- replace aging hoses, bushings, etc., to keep the car safe and dependable.

If you surf this site a bit, you'll read about 355 valve guides and manifolds -- potential issues with the 355 model that you'll want to ask about when you locate one and review its service history.

Also, the (Challenge) Stradale is the lightweight 360, not a 355 (unless I missed a special model?) 355s came as Berlinettas (GTB), targa tops (GTS) and Spiders.

Finally, make sure you're familiar with 355 regular service costs. Again, coming from a Dodge, you don't have five-figure 'major service-plus-while-we've-got-it-apart-anyway' bills.

I have a Ferrari 550 and a 355. I am in the same boat. I have a front engine, rear wheel drive car. I like the challenge of driving a mid-engine car just as much as a front engine. It's the best of both worlds. A mid engine car is a lot more stable in the corners and more fun to drive. I like the speed you can carry into the corner with a mid engine car. With the 550 it's a straight line car with lots of torque. With the 355 it's fun with the speed you carry into the corners. You can't go wrong with a 355? I also don't miss the torque of the large v12. How can you not buy a 355 after those videos from gothspeed??

I wouldn't drive one hard (ie on the track), the risk is too great. I've heard supercharged S-2000 solve alot of the car's shortcomings......and if you wreck it, who cares?

Once you lose the Grand Cherokee rims, the 348 looks amazingly sharp (see my profile pic).
