Both my wife and I woke up this morning and talked about having bad dreams. While our mattress isn't great and due for replacement soon, I was wondering if the foods you eat can cause nightmares... I had someone tell me before that dairy late at night can cause them.

FWIW, one thing I learned about shopping in New England markets: always check the expiration dates.

I had some wacky dreams the other night after having cheese with crackers and pepperoni just before going to bed. They say its best not to eat anything after eight p.m.

If I go to bed with a full belly (especially with a bit of alcohol added), I can guarantee nightmares.

I've heard of these before. Commercials maybe? They look very supportive though - lots of layers.

Have you ever tried the Westin Heavenly bed (by Simmons)? That is probably the most comfortable one I've been in yet.

Sleep in a cold room? That too is supposed to cause nightmares.

Really? The room isn't cold but I often sleep most of the night without sheets since my wife likes it warmer than I do.

I've been suspicious of apnea for a while now - I've consistently had nightmares and high-stress dreams for about 10 years. Several of those health websites said adolescents tend to get more nightmares, but mine never stopped. Being chased, having to chase someone, having to fight/kill people, having family members die, being shot, aliens/monsters (and I don't watch a lot of sci-fi anymore), lots of things with deadlines and time, extreme embarassment etc. Of course, when you say these things, it appears to be stress-related. The odd thing is that I'm not a "stressed" person day-to-day, and am rather laid back and even-keeled. I've come to think of it as my brain's way of releasing stress... although it can mean I often feel unsettled right when I wake up.
