My car is in the shop right now and I want to remove the clutch cover to have it refinished. If I remove it can the car still be moved around the shop under it's own power? Is the cover, in fact, just a cover?

    thanks!

If you're talking about the little 4 bolt cover with the horse on it yes. If you're talking about the full clutch houseing then no. You'll find when you pull it off the entire clutch assembly will come with it. The fly wheel bearing is actually mounted in it.

It is pretty involved, I just got through putting my entire system back together. That small 4 bolt cover covers the big nut that holds the damper/flywheel/clutch assembly through the giant bearing that is under the small 4 bolt cover. If you undo the perimeter bolts the entire clutch/flywheel assy will come along with it, then you have to heat that nut to free the red locktight, etc. etc. If you have a manual no big deal, if you have an F1 your in for a re-calibration now.

What sort of finish issues are you trying to correct?

Nothing to mark or measure, just be sure your battery is disconnected so when your starter flops down you don't get a short circuit.

ok thank you, I'll make sure to do this all on a hoist instead of my garage floor. My car is severely lowered and I hit a bump large enough to scuff mine up and tear off that little grill piece. I just sourced our a brand new one so I'll remove mine and install the new one.

If you do the full removal, you can buy the tool to remove that nut from Amazon, it is used for spindle nuts on a pickup as well. Got mine on amazon.

    POWERBUILT
    4 LUG X 2-1/2" INNER
    SPINDLE NUT
