I have a 1981 308GTSI, beige interior. Carpet is in good shape, but some areas look sun faded a bit, especially behind the seats and directly behind the rear glass.
Was thinking about putting all new interior carpet inside, but it sure would be easier to dye it.
Can this be done with reasonably good results?
    Thanks

I don't know, but the only people I have ever seen to sell a carpet dye is Leatherique.
Would be very curious if you do it how it works out.

Who offers good carpet sets for a 308, and what do they sell for?

I've gone the carpet dye route in one of my 66 corvettes using a product froma national resto place. Carpet is black and did a reasoable job of replacing/covering the faded to blue areas. The "dye" was basically spray paint in my opinion. But did do a descent job.

On my 308, I went to a auto upholstery place and order a few yards of their higher end stuff and re-did the whole car myself for around $300. This isnt the route for everyone, but originality isn't high on my list. Since I could do it myself I went under the seats/console, etc and felt it looked better than the stock sets that only go "up to" the console etc.

    Just an option.

When you re-did your 308 carpet, how difficult was it? It looks to me like the console directly behind the back glass would have to be removed in order to get the carpet in right, and I'm guessing that would require taking out the back glass. Also, what about the console itself? It's some type of fabric, but not actually carpet. Did you replace that too?
    Thanks

I got my carpet kit from World Upholstry. About $600 for the set. Just starting to get it put together now and it seems to be working out good. It takes a bit to figure out all the pieces and to get them to conform to all the bumps, curves, and corners. It'll look great when I get it all done though.

As for the back firewall section of carpet, the console would need to at least be loose and the rear deck trim would need to be removed. If all you remove is the deck section back there the glass can stay in but it'll be tricky.

The console itself should be leather not fabric.

My black carpet was so faded and discolored from the sun that it looked redish / purple. I decided to redye it instead of getting it replaced because I wanted to keep it original and the cost of the dye was a fraction of a new carpet set.

I got the dye from Leatherique and dabbed it in with a shortened bristle paint brush (cut the brissles down with scissors). Worked great and I loved the results!

I didn't have to remove my rear window (80 GTSi) to get out all the pieces on the rear deck, moslty rivets ans screws. I did however have to remove the 1/4 windows. Some have said that they "had" to remove their rear window, so it may differ car to car.

Overall, I didn't think the job was too difficult. In my line of work, I do a lot of things with my hands, so that sort of stuff comes easy to me. Overall though I don't have any special skills that other people don't have so I encourage anyone to give it a go.

The only reason the rear window would need to come out would be to get the (vertical) bottom window surround trim or the back headliner out. Even that is really only held in by the rubber gasket of the window. With some work you could probably remove them without removing the window.

If you are only talking about doing the carpet neither of the above pieces need to come out, just the bottom shelf pieces.
