I have fortunately several times visted, including last year in the new facility. Although strikingly beautiful and tasteful, I longed for that especially nostalgic feeling experienced when viewing Nikki Lauda's and Michael Shumaker's race cars sitting, seemingly haphazardly discarded, in that old dusty garage. The visual, the smell, the aura of it all was sweet poetry for the senses.
I not only let people sit in the car but offer it up front, especially kids. (I do casually check clothing, rear pockets, general cleanliness, etc. first) Generally speaking, sports car owners have a negative stigma and stereotype. It benefits all of us to break that stereotype and encourage people to love cool cars. Every convert we make is one less person that will park too close, key your car, tailgate, flip you off, etc.
People I can usually deal with, but at a recent cars and coffee some guy with a dog let it put it's front paws up on the sill of a door open Mercedes Gull Wing. I honestly don't know what's wrong with people.
My son and I are both new to Ferrari but he’s already in the drivers seat and I’m the copilot. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I remember filling up at a gas station, and the dad filling up the minivan ahead of me came and asked could his son please come and take a look. I said why not let him sit behind the wheel and get a few photos? Result, one over the moon kid. Dad smiled and said something to the effect of I’m not sure whether to thank you or not. You’ve absolutely made his year, but we’ve got a 10 hour drive home, and I’m going to hear about it the whole damn way.
Why not? My grandson already learning the moves...in a 250 GTE I had some years ago. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I always let kids sit in my challenge car at events. It makes me feel good to share a little with a young kid. Then invariably the parents say "thank you sir" and I think to myself I'm not a "sir" then I realize I'm in my 50s and get depressed. It's a cycle. Ha.
Ya I’m in my 50’s too and I just walk around asking, “WHAT THE FCK HAPPENED!?” over and over . Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I think the original post was more referring to strangers rather than your friends and family. I don't think there's any debate here about letting your friends or family sit in your car.
Quick story - I have a loose friend ( we made a few breakfast runs on the back roads years ago - I’d bring my GT3 and he’d bring a Ferrari or Porsche ) …. Anyway, I ask him if I can bring my girlfriend out to his warehouse - he’s a great guy and says sure - we show up ( I’d seen it before ) and there’s literally 25-30 cars ( Porsche, AMG’s, Ferraris, and 2 Singers ) - he starts opening doors and we’re sitting in all these wicked cars that make my 2007 GT3 look like an old Mustang …. Having a hoot and then he asks if we want to hear them - so then he runs back and forth to the safe where the keys are as we start a 1/2 dozen cars or so in this warehouse - good stuff MDS
Quick shot ( I’ve posted this before ) of our first breakfast in the above story …. Just had an awesome time - I felt like a little kid Image Unavailable, Please Login
At a local meet today my 8yo son got thrown into an e46 track car, then after talking with another guy about my 456, he invites both of us over to check out his original, and unrestored 66 Cobra... couldnt get kids in it fast enough, didnt even bother to help with the door handles, just happy to show it off. I even took a turn... Show off the cars!
