Just wondering, but can the mondial convertible be driven without the tonneau cover in place? (Can the convertible top mechanism be damaged?)

I don't know, I thought I'd seen that it's a bad idea as it can flap around, probably not worse than any other convertible except for the cost of replacement if it does flap around and tear. There are after market covers available on ebay for less than $500.00. I don't have personal experience with them. You can get them in canvas or leather that is reported to match. A new one is on my wish list for after I get the 30K completed and repairs done to the seats. Until then mine mostly works. But for that matter I know a new top is on the short term horizon for replacement as I'm still on the original and it is showing a lot of use.

Yeah, the question of frame damage? Go buy a repro and let me know how it fits.

Why would you want to not have the tonneau cover on? The tonneau cover gives the car such a nice clean finished look.

    Should not be an issue.
On all the other convertibles I have fooled with the cover only went on for a show or parades and never had any issues with the tops.
List that is not a problem includes 60s chryslers, modern Sebrings, MG, Fiat spyder, Alfa 75 Caddilac.

Many of them are a PITA to get on and off.

Just drop the top and enjoy it.

I've driven my 83 Mondial Cab without the cover. No issue.

No Problem. The top is so heavy, it won't come up.

When I used to have mine though, I never completely removed the tonneau cover at the front of the boot so it wasn't that hard to put on, other than having to stretch the bugger a bit.
