I have a wmv file that I use when I give speeches. It's probably 30-45 seconds long but I only want to use the first 10-15 seconds of it. Do you have the software to delete at least the second half of it? I want to display it in PowerPoint. I'm using WinXP and I'm not too computer literate.

How big is the file? I am asking to see whether it's feasible for you to email it to me. If you can't, we will have to get into ftp stuff...which probably means you will have to send me your phone number via PM so I can guide you through the process of sending it to me via ftp.

It's about 40 seconds long. All I want is the first 25 seconds of it.

    It's a wmv file.

I'm not sure if this would work in your case, but you could just cut up the file easily with VirtualDub. Of course, save the orginal and make a copy before you do anything.

It doesn't support ALL video compression, so it might not load. But if it does, its very simply to just click and drag the slider and delete the stuff you don't want, then save it with your choice of compression.

I think Windows Movie Maker will do that. Start->Programs->Accessories->Windows Movie Maker.

Import the clip into a new project. Use the slider on the right preview pane to go to the place you want to split and hit the "Split Clips" button under the preview pane.

Drag the clip(s) you want to save down to the storyboard at the bottom.

Hit File->Save Movie File and pick the options for saving it.

It goes without saying that you should work from a second copy of the movie file.

If necessary, you can send it to me and I can cut it down.

Thanks fo bandit and tvrfreak. Both worked well. Sure appreciate the assistance. I'm putting together PowerPoint slides for a talk next weekend because I don't have time during the week to work on it.
