Dealership installed a new water pump on my 328. A couple of weeks later the water pump burst and my car overheated and had to be towed. Dealership claims no engine damage was done but when test driving the car they noticed that the engine was running at half. Their diagnosis was a damaged crank position sensor. Could this have been caused by the overheat? They are claiming it is not related. Please help.

I would tend to think that the two would not be related. Heat and vibration are the enemies of electrical and electronic devices but the sensor is on the bellhousing and more or less sitting in air space. Granted the bellhousing is bolted to the block but still....

What do you mean the water pump burst?? Do you mean the hose? (I hope so!)
