I bought this 365 2+2. The title says 67 but I think it is a 68. Can someone please decode this serial number 11711. Thank you in advance.

    Hi, Matthew.

    There's nothing to decode.

Ferrari serial numbers ran odd numbers for road cars, even for competition cars, in sequence of production.

Yours does fall around the production of 1968.

Matthew- 11705 was a US MY68 365 GT 2+2, number 185 out of production of 801, the nearest Matthias Urban's books have to your car, so yours is undoubtedly a 68, too.

Incidentally, title year was not too accurate in the good old days before VINs were introduced, especially for low production cars.

Possibly titled/imported as a 1967 because it was the last MY that didn't comply with DOT safety and emissions standards. I don't think that there was a US version 365 2+2 produced until MY 1969, but I might be mistaken.

Forgot to mention, wrong forum. There is one for earlier cars, like your SOHC 365 GT 2+2, and this one for the the later, 365 GTC/4 successor, the DOHC 365 GT4 2+2.

Matt: I think they started giving production cars even numbers too around 1988, beginning with #75000. A friend of mine has a Mondial with an even number, and it isn't a 500.

Matthew: Congratulations! Hope to see some pictures! I'll see if I have any adverts of your car being offered for sale in old publications, my database is huge so something might be in there.

Greg- You are correct, 75000 was a white Testarossa, the first use of an even serial number for a 12 cylinder street Ferrari.
