I can accept that... I may get flamed for saying this, but as much fun as i'm having with this car, I have not (nor may I ever) push this motor to 8500 RPM. I know it can handle it, and its designed to do that... but my opportunity to push much past 110-115 MPH is rare to never. I usually shift between 4500 & 6000 RPM's if i'm gettin on it so... I have a turbocharged Mazda that redlines at 7K, I hit the rev limiter on it now and then... and it only needs a timing belt every 65K miles! lol I accept and agree with everything you said, but at the same time, I dont necessarily agree that if the car is driven regularly, and averaging 7K miles a year, that the timing belt should have to be changed just because its been 3 years. I'd like to think that with 8 out of 10 cars on the road utilizing a timing belt setup, that the quality, reliability and technology of the belts has greatly improved since 1991.
