I did this riddle a few months back. Can't remember the EXACT number, but I remember it was the largest cranking amps battery that Wal-Mart had, if that helps any. Something like 850 or 875 - although either would work fine.

Oh, I got the smallest battery I could too. Cut down on the bloody knuckles and the swearing. ;)

Hey Bill I'm curious, what is the production number of your car?

Group 34R (R simply means the terminals are in reversed orientation). Check your cables, I am not certain on the 348, but on my 1997 355 Spider, the cables were long enough to reach, that a standard Group 34 would work. If a Group 34 will fit, the best of the best right now (according to the latest Consumers Reports testing) is the Sears Platinum battery. It is $189, but has a four year free replacement warranty, is completely sealed and using Absorbed Glass Mat construction. This is similar to the Optima, but in a normal plate orientation, rather than spiral wound plates. Very high CCA, 880 IIRC.
