    It's the alternator heat shield.

    If its the original it contains white asbestos!!!

    Same as my '73 dino. Pretty sure that is original. Yes alternator sheild. Probably find the asbestos is soaked in oil from timing chain tensioner leakage. Kevin

    That makes sense - there's an aftermarket Bosch internal-regulator alternator on the car, so maybe the original heat shield didn't fit it. Thanks for the information.

    I would fit a new one if i were you as it acts as a good oil deflector if the tensioner bolt weeps as Kevin noted........cheaper than messing up your alternator!
