Ahead of my Jan 17th appointment for a manifold inspection and new clutch point of slip and wear check, I was thinking wouldn't the more cost efficient way of dealing with the F430 manifolds be to core the cats out and refit the revised hangars to prevent stress cracking?

Stock appearance, better flow, no fitment issue. Assuming that the headers do not have cracking developed has anyone gone this route?

Metal fatigue may eventually set in and cracks can develop that a replacement set of headers would prevent. That's the biggest and only real advantage that I see for peace of mind.

No smog or emissions checks where I live. I didn't get lucky, I planned it. :)

gut the precat, REMOVE the oem hanger. No need to buy any aftermarket hangar. Works wonder for me.

except you'll get a cel sooner or later for cat efficiency. An ECU reflash is a must to remove that cat efficiency , or get a obd ii code reader ready every once in a while.

Thank you! I suspected this could be done from comments made but I couldn't find the exact thread with search.

I will look into a reflash, hopefully without requiring the ECU to be sent out and there is one that can be done remotely. It's winter here, so it may not be a big issue packaged well with insurance!

My three other cars are all reflashed and modified, lots of great experience in that area the last decade.

Mine runs Capristo manifolds and a code is a rare thing- see how you go after removing the pre cat. I tend to start up and let the exhaust heat up- no blipping the throttle as i think it throws slugs of unburnt fuel down the pipes onto the cold sensor and hence the codes. Once the sensor is hot the fuel will not drown the sensor. As for repairing a cracked pipe, the pics i see of the oem pipes show how poor they are- compared to a capristo they are shocking quality

here's what I bet: there's no cel on your car, but there's a code which you didn't read. It usually gives you a real cel after thousands of miles, by which time, most cars would have been battery disconnected, hence the miles been reset.
