That's correct. To me, Enzo cared about Formula 1 trophies FIRST.

Does your namesake help SF or hurt it? It helps. So in terms of the original ethos, my support ironically makes me closer to Enzo's 'purity.'

Of course, we follow the secondary considerations (by definition, 'less pure') of what makes a Ferrari 'road car' a 'real Ferrari' with legit bona fides.

I understand Jay Leno's hatred of Ferrari owners and Doug Demuro of Porsche owners when engaging in many 'pissing' contests of what makes a road car a 'real' Ferrari. It's so played out and tiring when I see new and old still do it.

    1. PS owners not pure.
    2. ..and current owners are milquetoast because of hybrid.
    3. AWD Wagon is so poseur.
    4. Past owners fake because of paddle.
    5. Previous owners before that faux due to Fiat.
    6. 2+2? Imposter!
    7. Do you mean you don't reference your car by last VINs #s?
    8. And before that - that Ferrari is not homologated for road and track
    9. sigh, and it's not It's not a 125S or a 250.
It's a slippery slope that only ends if your last name is Schumacher Sr. Until that, hamster wheel.

Yeah there’s definitely a rabbit hole of philosophy we can fall into [at the end of the day all cars are ultimately made out of the same ****; every manufacturer just has different ideas on how to do it. And what exactly is a car, anyway] Enzo started like any other founder; with a passion to make something great. But he could not see the future, just like Dorsey, Zuckerberg, Jobs, or anyone else could’ve foreseen what their initial passions would turn into. He cared about Fomula trophies, but he loved his 2+2s to a fault.

I don’t much care for Leno and his stance on Ferrari; but as an all American piston head…I can see why he feels the way he does. I also see the irony of an Italian American not having a single Ferrari in his portfolio. One has to understand it’s a relationship you’re entering into, it’s not snobbery or entitlement or anything like that. If anything, you should welcome such an opportunity in a world where money can pretty much buy anything in and of itself.

No offense taken. I agree that Enzo would not paint his cars pink, even if the customer is willing to pay. So I hear you. (Though philosophically, if a customer offered a billion? hmmm) Ultimate flex? I don't think Enzo is a stupid man, would Ferrari 'sell their soul' if offered FU money? (see below for the answer)

    ***

What makes the PS different from the approved Pinin prototype or LdM's approved cars?? (I don't think LdM is a stupid man neither)

All have four doors, and all have four seats.

So what is it we're really quibbling about here?

    One word. Height.

So the fastest sedan around the Ring is 58 inches high, and the PS is 62. (Well, technically 62.1 with the ride height drop at speed) - got to appease the 'purists' and all with accurate data of course.)

That's what this is all about, yeah? 4 inches. (erh, I mean 4.1)

    Which is precisely my point.

Having stood next to the car, your shoulders stand clear above it. It’s in a completely different size class than an SUV.

E ogni donna ti dirà che si tratta di forma, non di taglia.

Correction, forgot about the other anathema that's upcoming, the ELECTRIC Hybrid AMG GT 4 Door - that's 57 inches vs the M5 Competition 58.

Should hit the ring faster then 7:23 - me thinks in the low 7s.

    Psst..don't matter, purity and all....

Formula 1 has been doing hybrid for a decade, what do folks here have over Lewis Hamilton?

    :)

Speed, winning races, don't matter yeah? We should focus on how the thing looks, sounds (authentically), and smells over everything else.

Sitting down in the atelier to spec mine was an almost religious experience. It was over in 12 minutes because I knew exactly what I wanted. The hard part is the 8-12 month wait; but I’ve waited longer.

And I wouldn't say ‘over everything else’ as that racing spirit is very much intact.

Isn't grand it not an either/or proposition?

I need help understanding folks who want Ferrari to abandon technological progress and ignore market segments. I don't care if Ferrari makes a sedan or SUV; as long as they still make hypercars, what does it matter? Does more profits help or hurt their Formula 1 program?

Do the Cayenne/Macan that make the 911s bad cars? Do they ruin the Porsche brand?

On the contrary. Folks here act like the Cayenne ruined the Carrera GT and made it too 'soft.' ROFL.

Your Roma/Purosangue doesn't stop the 812 successors; these cars that target other segments *ensure* it. Does Ferrari making sure all their latest cars are competitive in performance make them gain or lose relevance? Judging my all the luddites here, they want Ferrari to go the way of Duesenberg.

As much as I love concourse de elegance, I like to live for the future as well as the past.

I leave us with the immortal words of this sites' namesake.

Nothing is perfect in this world, there are continuous improvements, constant and inexorable. One needs to know to follow them and possibly FORSEE them.

    -Enzo Ferrari

Am I saying we should forget or lose reverence to the older cars? hell no, they are great! However, you quickly learn in business, the worst thing you can do is 'stay still.'

Depends on who you ask. Conviction is a powerful thing.

Supposedly their new electric will be a sedan, so the controversy is likely long from over.

I don't mind the controversy at all, in fact it's a reason I love Ferrari. The passion it engenders, good or bad. Life would be pretty boring if we all thought and felt the same.

Congrats btw on your upcoming cars!

    Cheers

Thanks for posting, I hadn't seen that article.

Ferrari was never going to see that 30MM from Velas. VLX, like FTX, a house of cards.
