I have a Normal 360 but I am looking for ways to upgrade it. Now I am installing headers cat delete pipes and the capristo 3 and then going to flash the computers. I was reading about a 360 for sale and they told in the add the upgrades the 360 had and one of the feeatures was Challenge Stradale air flow sensors. So my idea is I could buy the challanege stradale sensors before I do the flash any thoughts from you with the experience

first, nomenclature : what exactly is a MAF sensor? is it just the 4 inch long thing or is it include the housing.
2nd, if you mean the housing & the element inside, then the stradale MAF won't fit a Modena, u need some modification ( butcher job)

Both the original and the F430/CS/599 Air Flow Meters are made by Bosch. They CS ones are a bit wider in diameter and therefore flow more air, especially at higher RPM's which is where there are restrictions on the stock 360 which cause a power loss due to the more restrictive stock air meters fitted. This only really helps at higher up in the rev range as well as for peak power.

If you fit larger AFMs it requires that the Bosch Ignition ecu's are also adapted. More specifically the MLHFM table of 512, 16-bit entries of Airflow Voltage Linearization data within the map area need to be replaced and the image re-checksummed. My Swiss Army Knife tool has this feature built in specifically for this purpose. This is basically a calibration table which maps airflow voltages measured by the meter to voltage output from the sensor itself between 0v and 5v. If the table isn't swapped the actual airflow vs the expected airflow is incorrect which basically confuses the ecu's and you won't get the best power output. The easiest way is to cut & paste the tables directly out of the CS firmware and swap it over using Swiss Army Knife.

As already mentioned the airbox covers on the stock airflow meters use snap/click clips to affix to the airboxes. On the larger air flow meters, they are bolted rather than clipped. This is done deliberately as to prevent someone fitting the wrong airflow meters without the correct calibration data to the wrong car. Therefore if you want to fit larger air flow meters you need to either fit CS airflow meters and re-flash the ignition ecu's with re-calibrated tables or it simply won't work. So in summary there are both physical and digital limitations to overcome.

Furthermore to get the absolute best results out of this you really should actually start from full Challenge Stradale firmware and adapt it to fit your vehicle's configurations. Again Swiss Army Knife can help with that too. There where lots of changes done on CS firmware that normally would never make it in if a tuner just grafted over some of the more obvious maps over from the CS into Modena firmware using WinOLS. In fact do this without care and it could run lean under some circumstances. I only recently fully understood how all of this works and managed to get real CS firmware running on any model year 360 and the difference is night and day... Even on a bone stock 360 you gain an instant 5hp across the entire rev range. Not exactly massive but power gains don't paint the whole picture, the calibrations are such that Normal driving mode is deleted. The old Sport becomes Normal and the Sport mode becomes Race. Throttle response is better resolved and car just feels at every point in the rev range. There are many improvements too numerous to mention here.

I can help if you need any more information just PM me. Always happy to help as I've pretty much reverse engineered the entire firmware now and even starting to add new features like dynamic features such as drive time selectable maps. Watch this space..
