So, a bottle of STP Complete fuel system cleaner, and a battery disconnect/relearn seems to have cured the issue. All very Italian!

Fuel system cleaner is mostly a band-aid. I would have my injectors cleaned and resealed with viton. Had to do it on mine.

The injectors look pretty straightforward. Can I overhaul them myself? I enjoy these type of projects.

Wouldn't you need a flow tester to make sure they have the same flow?

You could almost certainly do an injector clean project yourself but you'll probably need an ultrasonic cleaner. I think they're a couple hundred bucks and would probably be useful for cleaning parts other than injectors. I've considered getting one myself and probably will next time my 456 needs injectors cleaned...
good luck - keep us updated please!

You would need a source for the viton seals, too, to prevent them from reacting to alcohol in our fuel. A lot of specialized equipment for doing this and testing results, so probably easier to just have a pro do it for $20-30 per injector.

I hear what you say, but I do love to learn by challenging myself.

It seems that there are 3 steps to restoring Bosch injectors, Cleaning, flow testing and replacing the seals.
I am sure that I will spend almost as much doing this myself, as I would sending them away. However, I have a stressful job and this is how I relax!

I will look a the costs for an ultrasonic cleaner, electronic injector activator and viton seals. If this becomes more expensive than the 'pro' option I will revert to getting them done elsewhere.

Thanks everyone for your continued support.

Here is an example of an injector tester: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Automotive-Fuel-Injector-Tester-Simultaneously/dp/B0CF57Q836/ref=sr_1_27_sspa?crid=S2Y3BDKAOWYR&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.kG_MHY2npGpANizH0PB2kHjiwvV5IYonR8SlCDj7BfNLyRwXVRBFAs8LT0jX2ZEJE0VLN2-4S1hRXWYq2iYPjxGOz-UgLGIRzRl7CZT90dnGxhVyrimroMC3EI1IjVzB7wpueZ0KmW202oWJlLex2Qt3EN9dImqXOe2WLc-MX9Nx4qfOJeU6fNwB6KBvHqFUYW4_6xc7UnCCFYZUKIHGXdo3zkgXFWOK4dc5K0kqqI2-4Dr2uUVGMcl2s7CipctwMoAv89PEHINeN0IVujRldCaWfLOouAW8EDIsqfNTNoI.EOxZWj9XQNJ5JKIvUdyr7ccGglHYTYLiDxFtQ1W7SGw&dib_tag=se&keywords=Fuel+Injector+Tester&qid=1728038020&s=automotive&sprefix=fuel+injector+tester%2Cautomotive%2C117&sr=1-27-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9idGY&psc=1

I've been looking at the spark plugs for clues.

On the bank with cylinders 1 to 6 the plugs have carbon deposits
On the bank with cylinders 7 to 12 the plugs look fine (except number 7 which also has some carbon when compared to it's neighbours)

What would make one bank run richer than the other?

I will check the lead for cylinder number 7 too.

Apologies, on further investigations it seems that some of the plugs on bank 1 - 6 have light grey deposits too. So, other than a couple of black plugs the remainder were light grey with some deposits. The car has 60,000 miles and I’ve been using a fuel additive recently.

I will order 12 new plugs.

Post pictures of the spark plugs.
Cleaning the injectors without testing them on a dedicated flow bench is not enough. Ferrari injectors seem to get particularly dirty over the long term, at least mine and other owners' did, and mine required much more time in the ultrasonic bath than the tester initially thought was necessary, as he initially observed by testing them on his flow bench.

Anyway, by the sound of it your fuel pump supports seem original and in your shoes I would replace them before thinking too much about anything else.

Thanks Timmo, I did change my fuel pump supports for the ones built by Fabio, although the originals were not bad at all, after 27 years and 60,000 miles. I think that the petrol in Europe might react less with the pump supports than the fuel in the US?
