In advance I REALLY appreciate anyone who wouldn't mind taking 5 minutes to help me out on this one.

    Series 2 car, 1984.

I removed the air intake hose feeding the air filter on the right side of the engine. It only took a couple of seconds, easy to do. Under that hose I see a factory wire harness that isn't connected. Its just laying there. Look at the picture (you're looking forward). Where the first arrow is pointing you can see where it exits the main harnes. It looks to me like it should go forward (I really don't know) but whoever disconnected it bent it back to hide under the intake hose. At the end it has a white connector. The connector has 6 open slots, however only 5 of them are used. I'm trying to figure out where this is supposed to go.

    Any help?

    Dave,
By the shape of that boot, it appears that it originally went to the electronic ignition unit. Since it is disconnected and your car is still running (I assume), you must have a MSD or similar box installed elsewhere. If all is true thus far, then, (a) check the wires w/in boot to confirm codes below and (b) check yellow wire (w/ignition sw. 'on') for +12V. ( if so, you should protect that connector (shrink tube or similar) to prevent a short due to moisture (or whatever).
If car is not running, reconnect 'boot' connector to underside of electronic ignition unit.

Pin 1--green(terminal R1 of distubutor--lower side area towards clutch housing)
    Pin 2--black(ground @ distributor)
    Pin 3--red(terminal k of coil)
    Pin 4--not used
    Pin 5--red(to tachometer--thru fuse box)
    Pin 6--yellow(ignition sw.)
