Please, guys and gals, when it comes to Ferraris I'm a dummy. But I found this framed picture, loved it, bought it, wondered what it was, then noticed the emblem. Figuring this is a copy of a famous photo, I've been all over the internet trying to find it, but haven't been able to. Then I thought of coming to the people who would know. Can anyone identify the car, and if possible, the driver, track, date, etc?

I can't help, but perhaps if you post this over in the Vintage section someone there may have some ideas.

It is Eugenio Castellotti at the Nurburgring in practice (hence in the T car) for the 1956 1000kms in a 290 MM. Driving round the Karussel hairpin. Photo by Jesse Alexander.

Old topic, but isn’t that #0602m during the 1000km Nürburgring?

1T and 1 is not the same.
T is for practice and that was 0616 whereas the car actually raced was 0602 M with race #1.

Ahh, missed that point. Since the hood scoop doesn’t looke like 0616 at MM in 1956, but more like 0602m, I thought it might have been 0602m. I also thought I saw the square vent right under the scuderia shield.

Did they often change the drivers and numbers on the car during a weekend?

They were quite clearly experiencing some problems with the scoop-forced induction messing up the engine performance on a track with 150-or-so curves and a lot of accelerating through the transition zone of the carbs. Any hick-ups would quickly cost several seconds per lap, so they needed extensive testing before the race to get the cars running properly. Suffix T was added to 0616 as 0602 and 0606 were also tested at the same time with #1 (without T).
