Recently bought a 2014 Ferrari California. After 1+ hour driving I parked the car and turned off the engine. When I got out of the car the fan seemed to still be running in the engine. Made a bad assumption that it would eventually stop and probably just needed to cool off the engine.

When I came back 2 hours later the alarm didn’t work, needed to use the key to open the door. Noticed that the alarm light on the dash was not blinking. I put the key in and turned it and nothing happened. No lights, no signs of life and now the key is stuck in the ignition.

My assumption is that the fan running drained the battery (I read that the fan relays stick on these cars accassionally and if left can drain the battery).

My question is can I jump start this car?

I have read and heard conflicting answers to this question.

It’s in a parking lot so I am trying to figure out if I can jump it or red to get it towed to a dealership.

Yes, If you open the engine lid, you will find a plastic panel at the front of the engine that is held on by four 1/4 turn fasteners. Undo the fasteners and lift the panel out. You will see the battery and a negative jump start stud that is screwed into the frame member behind the battery. The positive terminal of the battery has a large squarish plastic cover over it. Depress the two release tangs on the side of the cover and lift it straight off. Connect jumper cables to the positive battery terminal and jump start stud. Run the donor car for a few minutes in order to charge the battery in The California, then try and start the California. Under no circumstances should you use a jumper charger or any kind of jumper system that will cause an over-voltage issue with the car.

Sure, why not? The dealers do it all the time with the portable jump boosters.

RTFM ! P234 is quite specific:

    Emergency starting
If the battery is flat, you can perform an emergency start by
connecting the special jump leads to the battery of another vehicle,
a portable jump starter or an external battery.

Either can be done. If you’re concerned drop a dime on a dealer.

You may however be left with a battery that no longer holds its charge very well if it got drained sufficiently...

After jump starting the car, you should drive it to a garage where you can connect your battery maintainer in order to bring the battery back up to full capacity.

This is Wade, service tech at *****************. You can jump start these cars, however, it is common to cause an electrical system error due to the low voltage in the system. You may need to take it to a shop that can work on these cars and have it checked and cleared of codes. It is not a problem in the system, just a by product of trying to get the car started with a low battery.
