    Hi guys,

in April 2019 I visited both Museo Ferrari in Maranello and Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena. Among the many other cars, for the first time in my life I saw a Ferrari 250 GTO. I would like you to help me identify this car and give me a little bit of background info about it. If you wish so, I can post many other pics from both museums. In the meantime enjoy the photos of this stunning dark blue 250 GTO. Please excuse the photos quality: lighting was poor and I didn't have a tripod with me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Marko

Thanks Marcel! :) Do you know what is the story about its blue paintjob and what is the name of this exact shade of blue?

No special story. Born red, then in April 1963 repainted white with a broad central blue stripe bounded by a narrow one on either side, then post 1964 repainted darkblue after George C. Dyer, Sr., of Hillsborough/CA had acquired 4219 GT. Never repainted again since the California paint job. Long time owner Brandon Wang bought 4219 GT in December 1992.

Delivery to Spencer Buick? I don't know much about Alfredo Ducato but he had incredible taste in cars.

A delightful piece by Bob Devlin, I especially enjoyed the correspondence between Alfred Ducato and Enzo Ferrari. Many thanks Marcel.

    Correction/addition re my post (#4):
4219 GT was repainted/restored again prior to 1987 by Nino Epifani in Berkeley/CA, and the dark blue became a darker gloss blue. Dyer then showed it 23 August 1987 at the 37th Annual Pebble Beach Concours in Class K-3 for Ferraris through 1964 and won the Hans Tanner Trophy.
Apologies for having supplied incorrect information.

Bev Spencer’s cars...or those of his Ferrari dealership in San Francisco. I highly recommend his son Roy’s book, MotorBinder, which is essentially a family photo album of Bev’s cars, drivers and friends.

Spencer again with his trusty Buick Riviera tow car. He was also the San Francisco dealer for Buick.

Sadly, his racing and Ferrari obsession got the best of him financially, along with an employee embezzler who stole from Bev’s businesses. Between the two, he lost just about everything including their beautiful home in Hillsborough. His family was loyal to him throughout, which is one of the things that inspired his son Roy to publish the book. Roy, by the way, is a recognized expert on Mercedes-Benz.

Yes a sad story. Don't know when he had his financial problems but from 1979 to 1981 interest rates spiked and that caught out a lot of people who were using too much leverage.

According to one database this car was red from the factory? I would like to see more pictures of it in white, seems an odd color to choose for a re-paint. But perhaps it showed the lines very well.

Doh! I should have known that.

I prefer the NART color scheme they used on 3387 GT, looks great in photos, must be stunning in the metal (I know they changed the shade of blue a bit recently)
