I know the Scuderia is around 105/6db - anybody know what the GTO noise registers?

The 599 GTO is louder than 430 Scuderia, don't know the math, but it's louder.

    what track?

    where is/are the db meter(s)?

do you have time to modify the car?

lots of tracks have silly sound requirements (I'm running at Laguna Seca this weekend, which has a ridiculous 92db limit); but when there's a will, there's a way.

some people fabricate exhaust pipes that will direct the exhaust away from the db meters; others will just lift off the throttle when passing them. do a little research and you can probably find a solution.

The GTO puts out a massive 118 dB (per what the paperwork states).

Yesterday I was asked not to run at race mode in Spa because of noise restrictions. Restriction was 105 dB. Static measurement performed last year at 5,000 rpm only (where it should be at 75% = 6,200 rpm) already registered 107dB but they let me in.

If thats for long circuit Brands Hatch they also have a pretty stringent drive-by limit out the back too - combine that with the previous post and it looks like you'll struggle

My GTO was static measured at 6250rpm at Goodwood and came out at 114dB. There was also a 458 in the queue and that measured 109dB.

Starting with the Scud I can't understand why Ferrari, who knows tracks all over are becoming stricter, doesn't have some in-car mechanism to deal with this. 105db days are not that plentiful but the Scud is at 106 and the GTO at way more. And they bill these as track cars!

But not if tracks won't let you drive them.

I presume you are thinking of the Brands Hatch day?

I took by Scuderia there in the past with no problems, but I remember last time a few of the cars weren't allowed out

Think I'm going to see if there are any spaces on the day then turn up and not pay until they ok my car

What could help is have a machine shop make some 90 degree down angled tips that slide over the normal tips. Mount them when you do a track day (should be a 2 minute job if you're lazy! ;)). Doesn't sound like it would do much on paper, but works wonders.

Exactly why I was asking. When we went to the GTO evening last year, the Ferrari engineer talked about them releasing factory warranteed quieter boxes for the Scuds etc. Never heard anything further. Does kill the on-road character of the cars though. The Scuds used at the Pilota courses in Italy have them - and they hardly make any noise :-(

Sorry guys but honestly I find this amusing, the fact that race tracks have noise restrictions at all is pretty laughable to me, racing by nature is not a quite sport. However even down here in Africa we have had problem...solved by the circuit owners dumping huge piles of soil to dampen the noise. However there is an old lady who doesnt much like the sound of Jean Alesi's 1991 F1 car at full song...

Seriously though one would think for one day noise regulations can be lifted...even if its only for say an hour or two.

Don't forget they even have noise restrictions at Fiorano!

Haha how loud is an F1 car at WOT? I too find it a little bit ridiculous that they would impose sound limits on a race track (bit of an oxymoron if you ask me).

Judging by the cars running at Fiorano that must be around 130-140dB?

Nowhere near that. They get a certain amount of free days running F1 - remember there's no in-season F1 testing allowed any longer. They have a Gas Off over the bridge and on the top of the main straight. I've been there a few times when sessions have been stopped for excessive noise. And all cars run quiet exhausts, esp Scuderia and Challenge cars.
