I'm here now, walked around this morning and I don't see any decent places to watch in general admission. There's a small hill at the hairpin, and over at grandstand 33. It seems a third of the track is off limits to general (the casino to 33?

    Any advice?

climb a tree. Or better yet, with the rain, find a bar and get hammered.

I guess I was spoiled by Austin. Tons of elevated general admission all around the track. We did get to try out some grandstands after the rain yesterday

Ask us earlier, before you buy the tickets, whether general admission has any good viewing areas? ;) Sorry for kidding, I know there have been a few threads over the years here about this, and I recall most people suggesting that general admission at Montreal had just this issue.

That said - there may be a general admission area on the exit of the hairpin, just at the end of the grandstand on the hairpin exit side, where the cars are accelerating on to the back straight. It was there when I last attended Montreal in 2012, I can't guarantee it's still a good spot.

Having been going to Montreal since 1982, I can say that there used to be some very good g.a. areas, where I used to watch most of Saturday's activities before sticking to my grandstand seat on Sunday.

Unfortunately, all of those have now been taken over by T.V. camera positions, hospitality chalets, larger grandstands and simply increased security. The last time I went (2010), I was unable to take a single photograph from any place other than my grandstand seat.

Some tracks may still have useful general admission areas, like Austin, but Montreal is no longer one of them.
