I personally think that the auto insurance rates these days are getting a little out of hand. I just got off the phone with various different companies (ie. Dominion of Canada, statefarm, RBC etc.) and all seem to quote me $3500 + per year on a 1995 Honda Civic Bone Stock.... even though i am between the 18-25 age bracket, is that justifiable? i mean in a year that would pretty much pay off the car itself, i have a perfect record and never had any problems in the neighbourhood i live in. I know that the rates are considerably higher because of flase claims and the auto-repair shops that fix damaged cars through insurance coverage charge the insurance compaines a fortune for even the smallest jobs. I just wonder, because i know of someone in my neighbourhood who has a ferrari 348, and while speaking to him, he laughed and said that the insurance on his ferrari isnt too far off from that of the honda civic i was quoted on! Really frustrating... i just wonder if any of you guys/gals share the same opinions, or if i just sound cranky. If any of you could help me out on this issue (ie. a contact / advice) it would be much appreciated.

here is a pic of the car as well, ..... Just look at it and tell me if you really think its worth $3500 a year... personally i think its worth $500 a year!

    Clyde,
I can't help, but do consider that WHERE you live has a big influence on your rate as much as the vehicle and your driving record/claims record.

If you are in area where the car will be left outside (no private, secure garage) and live in a less desireable area, that can all have an effect, regardless of your not having any incidents.

I live in the city of Seattle, and that fact alone, raises my rates significantly over living in the suburbs, even though I live in one of the more desireable residential neighbourhoods in Seattle (and have a secure garage).

    Dave
PS, I would ask the ins. companies if they have any suggestions for you, on getting a better rate. Raise the deductible?

As Dave suggests, raise your deductable to a $1,000.00 or no-collision.

Back in the day of University I had an 82 mustang 6cyl. I was paying back then 3,000 per year as primary driver. The car was worth 3k. I dont think your to bad given todays climate over 15yrs ago for me. And of course, I was 19, student with a clean record. If I had a Honda it would of been marginal in insurance. I remember that pain all to well.
Welcome to reality of being hosed by a monopoly.

true enough i guess... its just funny that the quote on a 92 Stealth RT was cheaper than a 95 civic hatchback which has 1/2 the horsepower. Even though it is a much more steal-able car, it still seems ridiculous, i think i'm just going to hold out the the winter beater for a few more years untill i hit the big 25 and then the rates will come down....

haha, so much for the teen deam of rolling around in a nice car ..... :(

Yikes, that really bites. This is really gonna piss you off... I'm 23, and drive a 2003 911 Turbo X50... just got the insurance bill $2,100.

I'm a 44 year old licensed dealer with two D-plates in Alberta..........coverage for 1MM of inventory...........up to $100K per each car without prior notification..........no glass or vandalism coverage.......$1000 deductible on collision...........$5000 on comprehensive.

I pay $10,500 per year........and I have a perfect driving record for the last ten years. Now bear in mind.......I can only drive ONE car at a time.

$3,500 for an under 25 adult with only a few years under your belt is not unreasonable when put in that perspective. It's way too much money....I agree with you 100%....but it's inline with other premiums.

ferrariguy2.......I have 30-60 year old clients of mine with multiple high end cars and perfect records that pay $1,500-2,000 for "each car" like yours in their fleets.

I don't believe your claim that you pay $2,100 per year..........are you sure it's not for every six months ? What are your insurance terms ?

Its $2,100 per year, can only put 20,000 km's on per year (I wouldn't put that many anyways), and its all about being creative.... cars can sometimes be classified as an "investment"...

    Clyde,

Yikes!!! Your insurance quote at $3500 is a real rip off! If you want to find cheaper quotes, I would suggest you try this insurance hotline web site at URL: http://www.insurancehotline.com/

thats really funny, because under the quote i got, i can only drive the civic (non -modded, not even lowered) for only 12000kms and its still $3500 + , if i may say this... "this is Ball$" , because it is.... and because its a darn civic, and a 95 at that.... i mean come on, you have a guy paying $2100 on a porsche who is 2 years older than me... i'm obviously missing something here... please share some insight ferrariguy2, i need it... bad

I'd shop around man, I agree that $3,500 is absolutely rediculous.... Get a list of insurance companies, start calling around, saying such and such company is offering me $2,000 and if you can beat that, then I'll give you the business.... sort of puts them on the spot.
My situation is different. I've put my car in a corporate name, and b/c of its value I have it classified as an investment and its none of their business who drives the car, as long as its an employee of the company with a clean record (me).
    Good luck.

The other option is to put the car in your parents name, then have yourself as just a seconday driver (which covers you too), this is what I used to do when I had a 300ZX turbo.

good call, and would work, except that there are 3 drivers and 3 cars, so the insurance company would forbid it, believe it or not, i work in the bank, and i still cant get a better rate... got trust?? lol

Ferrariguy2 is so full of excrement it is overflowing onto my keyboard.

    Come on you loser.....respond.....driving daddy's car to boot......gack !!

Insurance companies across Canada pull abstracts on "ALL" corporate driver's.........they want to know "WHO" is driving "WHAT".....you are required to state who is driving the cars....and for what usage......and where they are stored...etc...etc...there is no "investment" category. Beeeuuarrkk !!!

I have a 22 year old client who pays $10K a year for a 2002 C4 cabrio in Toronto with a record with 2 tickets. You have been busted !!

Post your insurance policy "and" vehicle registration here......or go back to the grade school rock from under which you have crawled. Poser.........

A while back when a poster called TELSON called me on something I posted my unedited passport and some other unedited photos to prove him wrong. He went into the "witness protection program" as a result. It's your turn.

E-mail the site owner ROB LAY and send him your stuff..........

It just sounds unbelievable, thats all. Wouldn't you agree? Kds is asking for proof. If your story is true, and you do infact own a 2003 911 Turbo, and pay $2100 in insurance per year, at age 23, then post some proof.

    Clyde,

In Alberta the insurance rates decreased a substantial amount earlier this month with new regulations in place. I was paying close to $400/month for a 2002 Mustang (a V6 even!) with a clean abstract. Starting this month, i pay just over $230, full coverage. I am 20.

Your insurance rates do seem high to me. Maybe some changes will be made to the policies on Ontario too. Good Luck.

Its too bad we dont have a policy in place (in ontario) to support the students with the rising costs of university tuition and living as well. oh well, i'm in the midst of a spending spree of the $ i had saved up anyway...

WHOA!!! Before you get on FerrariGuy's case let me just say this guy is for real. I have been to his home and let me tell you...his fathers garage would make you sick. He does indeed own a TT Porsche..I have seen it with my own eyes. He has know reason to lie about this type of thing. Look...I was 25 when I got my Ferrari. I have never paid anymore then $1200 per year for insurance on that car. Him at 2500 does not sound out of line. Now he may have a friend in the company like I do to help with rates. But I see no reason for him to lie.

By the way FerrariGuy..Thanks so much for the invite to your place. It was a fantasic experiance. I look forward to future events!! Both you and you father are wondeful people.

Thanks Tom! Ya it was a fun event, and I'm sure there will be many more in the future! Your Ferrari is amazing, I've always loved the 308/328 series and its nice to see someone that takes such great care of their car.

As for the insurance rates, Clyde I wish you luck in your insurance search, sorry I couldn't have been more help, just keep searching around and don't give up. Don't be afraid to try and be creative, the worst they can say is "no".

I will also second Toms opinion here about ferarriguy2. Was also invited to go up, and Tom and Jay both went up with some lambos. The guy is the real deal. Before you start slamming the guy cut him some slack.

Ferarriguy2 , no need to post proof to others on the board. There just alittle shocked that there not in your position, and seems abit far fetched to them.

*yikes*, first time i'm reading this thread. Im too busy on the Toronto spotters thread talking to myself now I see this! Why is this getting ugly. I am not on anyone's side here I just hate seeing negativity/name calling etc.. Ryan I do believe you pay that much insurance because I have heard of of situations like yours. And yes as you may recall, I too have seen your Turbo when you came by to visit. *drool*

But nonethless, insurance companies are indeed scammers.

Speaking of your house party, I truly feel sick looking at the great pictures and knowing that I didnt go :( But as you said. Maybe next time.

P.S Guy's let us not fight, it's been a while for most of us on f-chat with no fighting whatsoever. Simply no need

    Just my 2 cents.
