I thought I had heard it would be shot in HD, but I could be wrong. Either way I'm just glad coverage is back on Speed, finally some decent, INFORMED commentary.

There's HD format, and then there's digital bandwidth.

On an NTSC broadcast channel, the luminance channel is chopped to 4.5M and the color channels are cut to 1.5 and 0.5M each. On a directv, you get mpeg 1.5 (precursor to mpeg2) video bandwidth.

That makes the difference between a lap counter and a smeared blob at the top of the screen.

But it's still 4:3 aspect 525 lines tall (versus HD format).
