I dont think it is HD- but a high quality digital feed. FOX did not indicate the race being HD. It looked a lot better than speed, but still not HD

you should switch to DirectTV - all races this year were in HD. You can see marbles, heat from the engines, brake dust etc.

FOX's broadcast was subpar - in Chicago they interrupted with Thunderstorms warning - switching picture to SD and no surround sound. Feed wasn't that great either. I like SpeedTVHD better.

    Ours was HD (Comcast).

You could see the track breaking up in great detail.

You could even see the red light at the end of the pit lane too. ;)

I am pretty sure the race was not in HD. Bernie's company, FOM, are the only ones who are allowed to tape the event and they rebroadcast to the various folks carrying the race. I believe they sent it in PAL format to the stations where it gets upconverted, so it looks better than straight NTSC but not much better.

I am pretty sure FOX and SpeedTV do not get the native HD feed. 1080 would look a lot better than what we saw today, IMO.

    agreed

part of the increase in quality comes from the fact that you have FOX upconverting the signal to HD resolution instead of your TV. Fox has special equipment that costs many thousands of dollars to do this process and make it look as good as possible. Your few thousand dollar TV (max) has a chip inside that does this, but it is nowhere near as good at doing it.
