How does this happen? There are millions of dollars at stake in these races. I have a hard time believing an engineer as experienced as Sam Michael didn't consider that the brake ducts on the McLarens might pose problems at scrutineering. Why risk it? Can't a team seek clarification from the FIA before implementing such a modification?

If there was NO benefit, what was the reason for modifying them?

    This seems very strange.

That said, at least Michaels took his lumps with class. I feel bad for McLaren and Toyota. Both teams need some good news for a change.

Holy Crap! I can't remember the last time two major teams were disqualified in an F1 race. Unbelievable. I'm not complaining, I picked MS, RB, and JB for my finishing order in the F1 Tipping League, including the trifecta! Just as well, I was 0 - for qualifying.

My sentiments exactly!!! Break out the champagne... again!

Timo Glock (the new shake up puts him in 7th), great first race of his career.

The question is - why weren't they picked up in pre-race scrutineering, instead of after the event?

    Gary,

I guess we know who has the high score for Ferrarichat this round. I think i got a whopping 40 points this go around. If the disqualifications did not take place forget it i would have been lucky to score 20 points

They pay someone an extraordinary amount of money to ensure some sneaky mechanic doesn't change a nut or bolt - wankers!

Better now than later. Remember last year tyres story? Everybody knew that the Williams were using irregular tyres but nothing happened until the Ferrari team presented a formal report. Then the story was settled, quickly, without much noise by the British FOM governing body. This time, since the British teams are, once more, biting the dust, miserably failing the contest even with less competitive teams, did you see Montoya (the passing master) struggling to pass slower cars? they decided that was wiser to clear the air immediately. Maybe a lesson to be learned for every body. Just in case!!

Actually, what they are waiting for to stop "Kamikaze Sato" before he gets into serious troubles? Did you see yesterday, again, what dangerous manouver he did??

I'll be fun next weekend to see what they will try to stop "le Rosse."

I wonder what world opinion would be if Ralf finished 1st? If he got disqualified I'm glad he was second.

Watching the race yesterday the commentators even mentioned how it seemed that Williams had found a cure for their brake problems from the previous year. I don't buy Williams response that the ducts gave them no advantage.

FACT: When big Business, {Williams in this case} steps up and says "yes, we did it". It is because they are hiding somthing worse. I think they found a way to cool the brakes better and used it. Now they are saying "yes we made a mistake". Instead if "Yes we made a desicion to improve our chances."
See how it works? Shame shame shame.

That's what I was wondering. Since obviously the cars weren't touched after qualifying, why wait until after the race and DQ them?

Well the race stewards and other officials do not want to inspect or "touch" the cars before the race so as to avoid any chance that a corrupt official may do something to a car. Also the stewards and officials want to avaoid any aligations that may arise as a result that they tamperred with the car while inspection. So inspection is only done after the race is over.

I too feel bad for Williams and Toyota. However... I am very happy for the guy who had no idea he was even going to race on Saturday, hops in the car on Sunday, and now he has a point!!

I can't believe I wrote McLaren instead of Williams. Even after I reread it....it looked right.

I guess I was momentarily stunned by the McLarens NOT blowing up.
