Michael's run at the end was fantastic to watch. Second place is still better thatn the third MS would have had if it were not for Kimi's late mistake.

At the risk of sounding like a sour puss...I'm just glad that Villeneuve crashed!!!!! I'm tired of smelling his farts in the Quebec press.

However, a nice clean race for Alonso and Schumi. ....and thank you Kimi for that gift.

Oh what could have been had MS been able to get by Trulli early on in the race...

    Fantastic drive by MS though.

Yet another snoozer of a race - how many battles were there on track?

Alonso started out front, only ever lost his lead due to others not having pitted yet, and cruised until the finish.

The only small bit of excitement was when Kimi lost it on the marbles and let MS take 2nd place - lucky for MS, but it doesn't matter, it's over for Ferrari this year anyway.

Kimi yet AGAIN gets screwed by his team and equipment. Before the pit stop, he was putting moves on Fernando to make a pass. After the stop, suddenly he's 0.5-1.0 seconds per lap slower? WTF?

Nobody can challenge Renault this year. They are very dominant over the other teams. Its a pipe dream to think Ferrari has the slightest shot. They would have to be as dominant over Renault as Renault has been over everyone else - and that just ain't gonna happen. You can see the other teams grasping at straws trying to find a way to luck out and score a win. They run very heavy fuel loads, risk running different compound tires, unique pit strategies, etc, etc. Meanwhile Renault grabs pole, makes a killer start, puts 1+ second a lap on the rest of the field, easily makes their pit stops, and brings home the win.

This season is well and truly over - Alonso's got it. Nobody else is even close to being close. Really sad. Its been years since there was a seriously contested championship where you didnt know who was going to win. Its been years and years. It seems F1 is getting more boring by the year, not less.

Just got back from the track. Here is what i noticed.

After Kimi's first stop disaster the race was over. Alonso was gone.

MS really did not seem to want to challenge Trulli. Once he got by he was gone but he took way to long to pass.

The Police love to give out good driving awards :(

The safety car is what screwed Kimi. It bunched up everyone til the end when Kimi had a decent gap between him and MS. That slight mistake wouldn't have been anything if that gap was the same. Thanks to JV screwing that up. What a hilarious day for Ralf. :p He was all over the marbles, lol! That's one way to get viewership for your car sponsors, keep spinning out!

Basically, Kimi needs to drop kick Villeneuve for taking an outside line to pass Ralph's crippled Toyota. He did have 2nd sewn up, even if MS' car was faster at the end. While coming in second gives MS some hope still for the title, the reality is that something catastrophic will have to happen to Renault for anything to change. They have the best package on the grid, and the promise of Bridgestone development at Monaco has become a joke as Michelin is completely outclassing them. There are not too many changes (save a switch to Michelin) that Ferrari can make that will make the 248 F1 more competitive. Even a tire switch will only go so far as the Renault is simply a better balanced car than an other on the grid.

Looks like Jacques Villeneuve will remain the only driver in the last decade not to be at least a back-to-back champion.

I which CBS would stay out of it, permanently.

I thought it was a great race, although I am really beginning to tire of Alonso and Renault's perfect races. Come on, run off the track or something!!!

Michael's driving was brilliant! No one could have been faster in his car. The only hope is that Ferrari finds more speed somehow, and Renault has bad luck.........

Fantastic drive by Alonso and Michael. He was the fastest Bridgestone man today and his speed and consistency throughout the race (apart from a half spin on the marbles at the hairpin) was very commendable.

Kimi was screwed at the pits by shoddy pitwork but he lost a lot of pace in the second stint for some unknown reason. Up to that point I thought he would be a sure shot for the win when Alonso peeled off first on the first pitstop.

Ralf seemed to be really struggling with really bizzare performance with spins aplenty.

Montoya was livid with Rosberg but on the previous lap he attempted the same move on Michael in the same corner. Michael saw him on the inside and decided to short circuit the chicane instead of banging wheels with Monty. Montoya emboldened tried the same move on Rosberg who didn't give way. As the announcers said the accident was inevitable. Monty compounded his mistakes by clouting the champions wall. It is shameful to compare the splendidly fast and aggressive Monty of 2001-03 with the clumsy, desperate "has been" today.

Good effort from Trulli - hard to believe this was his first points scored in the season.

Alonso is piling on the points with ease and it will take a miracle for Michael to overtake him.

A decade back a young charger won a championship in his fourth season in F1 taking a team that hadn't ever won before to the top step. He then repeated the championship performance the next year and then left the team in search of a greater challenge to take another hitherto struggling team to the top. Does this ring a bell? :)

I don't think luck has much to do with it. I think the Renault is so much faster and better than the rest, that they can run at 9/10ths and still beat everyone. Everyone else is pushing to 11/10ths just to try to eek out a win.

It reminds me of Ferrari a few years back - they were so dominant that they could just ease off the pace and make their cars super reliable and still whip everyone else.

Did you see the stats on the cornering speed? Alonso was something like 3-4km/hr faster than the next quickest and something like 8-9km/hr faster than the Hondas. That spoke volumes - the Renault is just much quicker around the turns. It's seems to be just a very well balanced and awesome package. Although they are not invincible.... remember where Ferrari was a few years back and where they are now. Alonso may have made a real smart move as it's unusual for a team to continue to dominate for too many years. If Alonso wasn't at Renault this year it would be some good racing and the title would be up for grabs. Renaults mongoloid-like decision to keep Fisi as their #1 driver is going to spell major trouble for them next year, unless they get Kimi or Heiki gets the drive and proves himself worthy of the hype.

It sure does. But this will be his undoing. He'll have a miserable season next year and either a Renault or a Ferrari will clinch the title. If Kimi is smart he goes to Renault.

Given the amount of marbles on the road at the end, I wonder how many cars finished on slicks.

I think with the merger between Champ Car and IRL moving closer to becoming reality, that would be a perfect time for JPM to leave F1 and get in on the "gound floor" of the merger!

Chip Ganassi says he'd re-employ JPM without hesitation if he leaves F1.
Ganassi, who ran Montoya in Champ Cars in 1999 and 2000, said "I'd love to have Montoya back. I'd take him in a second," although he admitted they had not yet spoken about a racing together again.

Montoya's future is currently unclear, as he has no contract beyond the end of his current McLaren deal, which expires at the end of this season.

Although a number of F1 drivers' contracts also expire at the end of this season, potentially opening several opportunities, Montoya's options appear limited.

An option for Montoya to remain at McLaren has not been taken up by the team and that he has now offered to drive for a lower salary, if he can stay.

Neither Renault nor Ferrari, meanwhile, have expressed an interest in signing him, although Montoya and Renault team boss Flavio Briatore had dinner together at the start of the season.

Speculation that he may drive for Red Bull has been talked down by team insiders; Honda, Williams and Toyota all look likely to retain their current driver line-ups, while BMW is keen to promote third driver Robert Kubica if Jacques Villeneuve leaves at the end of this season.

    Time will tell.

I sure hope he gets a better ride next because I love watching him race. You know when you watch Kimi there's no BS, he's out there to win and he'll drive the tires off the car trying to get everything he can out of it. When he bascially said there was no difference in being second or third because you still didn't win today in the post race interview was great. I like a driver who doesn't want to settle for anything but being number 1. It really bothered me and caused me to lose some respect for FA when at the end of last season it seemed like he was content to take second at each race be he knew he would still win the championship.

Trulli is nothing but a flipping rolling road block. That guy is ALWAYS holding someone up. He does well in qualifying, but come race time he SUCKS. I think it would have been a more exciting race if Michael had gotten around him sooner. Everytime Schumi is behind Trulli I think, OH GREAT how long is this gonna take? Michael looses SO much time behind that guy.

On a happier note, it sure was good to see F1 back on SPEED!

first of all, it wans;t the 2nd SC period that blew kimi's chance at the final 10 laps. it was good 'ol trulli, who as usual was napping when FA put the hammer down. and i can't imagine if he had not held up MS the 1st part of the race, it'll be a totally diff story and if kimi's pit dramas had not incurred. FA was made to sweat to win this race, it wans;t easy for him. i'm still expecting a Ferrari win next weekend. and it seems it'll rain....haha...can;t wait
