I'd buy in advance if you want a guaranteed ticket. If not you can take your chances at the track and do what I do - Buy a ticket 10 mins. after the race started and get them for half price when there is nobody left to buy them. I've done it the last three years I have gone to the race and scored big time all three times. If you do wait until after the race starts you shoul become familiar with the track and how to get to your seats. I have been about 8 times so i know where I want to sit and how long it will take me to ge there. Factor all this in before you buy at the track.
cdn grand prix website down? https://www.circuitgillesvilleneuve.ca not working, anyone know whats going on
For those of you going and are looking for cheap airfare, WestJet has some good deals right now. YYZ to YUL the Thursday before the race is $39, and return on the Tuesday is $39 too. Add taxes etc it comes out to $178 for a round trip. It would be $150 something if you leave on Wednesday and return on the next Tuesday too. http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/travelOffers/seatSale2.shtml
A question to those who have been to the Montreal GP recently. I was there in 1995 and it was so full of people it was about as much as I could take. I understand that at the time they had around 60,000 people, but in subsequent years increased that to 100,000 people. I could barely get off the island to the train in time to make my flight, so I am wondering if it's just become 'impossible' to move with so many more people now. Comments? Thanks! Wes
Hi Wes I have been to the Montreal GP many times. Do NOT to take the Metro or walk to the island. This is usually a 1 hour trip if lucky, followed by another 1/2 hour trek in the burning heat or pouring rain when exiting the Metro station. Take a cab from your hotel straight to the Montreal Casino. The casino is pretty much in the centre of the track. From there you can walk to your stands. You may have to go earlier in the morning to avoid security stops/closures of the bridge to taxi traffic.
Yes, do not walk across back across to the Island where the Metro station is. As soon as you exit the circuit, you will come to the bridges. (There are 2 main bridges connecting to the Ille Notre Dame). Just take a taxi from one of the bridges. You might have to wait 10 minutes in the cab stand. But its better than walking another 1/2 hour and being crushed by 25,000 fans in the Metro lineup. (And the Metro Lineup can be another 1 hour depending on the amount of people entering the station). Sometimes police will prevent taxis from entering the bridge after the race, I'm sure one of the local Montreal Fchatters can provide more info.
This year would be the first time I'll be heading to the Canadian GP as well. I have a question. Do you guys know if they mail out tickets closer to the date, or did my tickets get lost in the mail?
Cool. Thanks for letting us know. I almosted posted here yesterday to see if anyone had received their tickets yet, but I figured when we were told April it could have menat April 30th. looking forward to June as I am sure you are. Enjoy the race.
Have been following this thread and I am happy to report, i have my tickets as well! We are in the stands on turn 10 right before the straight! I cannot wait, this will be my first experience! Enjoy the races everyone!
If anyone wants a hotel room to stay right in downtown Montreal downtown for the race weekend, please do let me. Contains 2 queen size beds. Place is called McGill New Residence Hall. It is presently sold out. Price would be exactly what I paid for it which is 336 CAD I had booked everything well in advance (in January) but now won't be able to make it due to unforseen circumstances. Sucks big time and the hotel is refusing to refund me anything.
I posted this in the F1 section too but thought I might reach a few more here in the Canada section. I have eight tickets for all three days and we sit at the hairpin every year. Its a great place to watch the events but I was wondering if anyone with seats either on the main straight or the Senna Curve would be interested in exchanging tickets on one of the days. I would prefer to swap one or more hairpin (Section 24) seats for pit straight seats on Friday, or for Saturday seats at Senna Curve. We could meet up at the track on Friday or in the city. I will be there Thursday. Any interest?
Are we one day out of synch with each other? Practice starts on Friday and the only tickets on Thursday would be passes to allow access to the pit walk right?
Has anyone seen any info regarding a Thursday pit lane tour? They have done this at previous Canadian GPs - usually Bridgestone sponsored. I'm really hoping someone out there knows what the details are and will share them. Thanks, Mark
It looks like there's an 'open house' scheduled on the official site. I'll keep an eye on the local papers and post if there's anything else to add. http://www.circuitgillesvilleneuve.ca/planning.html
Only a week or so to go until the Festivities get underway. Myself and 3 friends are flying up on Thursday. Looking for suggestions on what to see and do, special events, car shows etc while we are in town. We are going to a Party on Friday night and Globe on Saturday night. What else should we be sure to check out while we are in town? thanks for the help. Tim
