Well, I just bought an '87 Mondial Cab (w00t!), brought it up to Nova Scotia from Atlanta by shippiong it to Boston and driving it onto the Maine ferry at Portland.

Lots of quirks, I'm finding, but today is the third day I've had it in here, and it's sunny. So I tried to lower the top, which necessitates lowering the rear windows, apparently. Rear right window doesn't even twitch.

Is there a manual mechanism to lower the window? This worked when I inspected and bought the car a couple of weeks ago.

    Thanks!

No manual override, but just push down on the window while pressing the switch. It probably just needs a little help. You have a 21 year-old motor with 21 year-old dried up grease on the moving parts. It may help to have the engine running to be sure you are getting all of the volts available. You may want to pull the switch out or even swap with the other side if it still won't work. You will find that most of the time that something won't work, it is because there is a corroded connection or a wire is loose.

Thanks for the advice. I'd already tried the window push/switch technique; no joy.

I had a choice to make today - either work on the window, or go for a drive in my new (to me) Ferrari on a glorious late July Sunday. Guess which I picked ...

Since the car is scheduled in for Thursday morning for a provincial safety check and mechanical once-over, I think I'm going to be lazy, and I'll get them to take a look at what's wrong while I'm there.

    Hi

I have just finished Mondial QV rear window job, I have two Mondial Cabrio's (30k and 40k km) and have made rear window jobs for both of them:

Main reason for malfunction is dirt getting in system, you can get dirt out by losing motor from window system, but if you take window system out you can clean and change grease. At the same time you can change small metal balls that drives system in some cases these balls are got out of the place and this causes the malfuction.

this is picture form right side looking front:

and here you can "see" window:

    and this is window system:

Open the motor and chage balls this is important:
1.too many balls system does not work
2.not enough balls system does not work

    Drivers side is the worst!!:

    1. check electricity
    2. remove rear wheel
    3. remove innerfender
    4. remove gas fume collector(?) (if you work on left side)
    5. remove gas filler tube (5 parts) (if you work on left side)
    6. remove outer grill
    7. under the grill, remove aluminium plate
    8. remove airtube for oilcooler
    9. remove aluminium plate behind of the window
    10. remove inner sills
    11. loose hood fastening
    12. loose hood mechanism from the side you are working
    13. loose few strips(?)
    14. remove rear window rail
    15. remove oilcooler fan (if you work on left side)
    16. loose oilcooler (if you work on left side)
    17. loose window mechanism from frame
    18. remove window glass from res of the mechanism (not the glued part from the window, both of them)
    19. take all parts out und clean the system, change balls
    20. test multible time before instaling (remember the amount of the balls have to bee just right)

(ps. sorry my english is not so good, I speak berfect but I can't see errors from the tekst I write)

+1 All us Mondial owners will probably have to bite the bullet and fix the rear windows at some time or another, but don't jump into it unless you have to. Clean the heck out of the switch with electrical contact cleaner and work the switch (with the ignition off or the switch removed from the car) a ton of times while it is still wet with the cleaner. Let it dry, and then see if it works. Repeat this a few times before giving up. This has worked for me on multiple switches so far. Good luck, and enjoy your new ride!!!

    Corroded or not...
You can hear if motor is working, when you try lower window.

I have never understand that Mondials have some electrical issues? I have two and nothing, no gremlins.

only electrical issues that I had is Lucas radiator fans, both of 308s and Countach same fans and 4/6 have stoped

What do you do with your cars that you have these "gremlins?"
