I just bought one of these today, came with a 18-55mm lense. I bought the "ultra" 8 gb card. I dont know much about taking pictures, but right out of the box I have been impressed with it. It also has HD video, which is why I got it.

does anyone else have this? if so how do you like it, problems, tips etc?

I might buy a T1i or T2i (for $100 more), Amazon has a really good deal going on right now. It comes with the 18-55 and another one, 55-250 (can't remember off the top of my head), with a free filter for $750-850.

ps. mods move this to the visual arts area.

Be very very careful as the Rebel series can be dangerous. I started with an XTi a few years ago when it first came out and now have a 5D Mk II.

Seriously though be careful if you plan on using it out in the rain as they aren't nearly as waterproof as many of the point and shoot type cameras.

thanks for the heads up, I'll be in Seattle next week.

Costco has the same deal $870, you get the T1i, 18-55mm lense, 75-300mm zoom lenseor something like that, a really nice Canon bag that will hold batteries, lenses etc. and a 4gb card.

it was just slightly over what I was willing to pay at the moment, and the reason why I bought it doesnt require a zoom lense, I'll buy one sometime in the future.

here are a few pictures I took today. they aren't that good, but this is before I read the manual. I am learning a lot just from the manual.

That one is great, but the focus is on the nose and a few hairs underneath.

I thought that looked cool. I was practicing manually selecting the focus points.

I have a ton to learn, but I'm excited to finally have a quality camera.

I have a Rebel XT and love it. I have the 55-250mm IS lens as well. My friend got the T1i with 18-55mm kit lens, the 55-250mm lens, and that printer from Amazon for around $750 shipped. That deal is dead.

Here are about 150+ pics I have taken with my camera and placed on wiki. Click the thumbnail to see it larger (and click that pic to see the original size). The article links to the photos are below each thumbnail. Some of them I attempted to get a decent shot and others were more for documenting purposes (i.e. the Hughes H-1 racer).

I use aperture priority (Av) about 90% of the time and full manual (M) mode and shutter priority (Tv) split the other two. Manual mode for astrophotography and shutter priority for panoramic shots and moving cars.

edit: the only shot I put on wiki that I didn't take with my DSLR was the red Veyron back in 2006. That was a few weeks before I got my camera. I recently put up more animal pics that I like.

I have had my XT for a little over 4 years now and REALLY want to upgrade to a full frame. I would if I still had my job, but expensive grad school got in the way. :( I like the Canon lens options, but the Nikon bodies (especially the D3x) seem awesome with high ISO performance. The thing that kills a lot of my shots is the need to run a higher ISO and the noise that comes with it. :(

Hopefully Canon will come out with a body having great ISO performance. That's what I will use as the main factor for the next purchase...

T2i owner here. I bought it for the full 1080p @ 30 fps. Keep in mind the T1i only does 1080p @ 20 fps, which is, IMO pretty useless.

Shoots stills like a champ, nice LCD (3 inch), 18 (!) MP. My lens is the 18-55 mm.
