DMaury: You are right on target with your offer! Did the expert sales genius expect you to offer him $250K...it's called 'negotiation'...maybe he failed to make it to his lesson in sales that day. You made the right choice...research what is out there...don't get burned. Having the door slammed on you is totally unacceptable...i bet that you are not the only customer that FoLI treats like that.

I was there last week looking at the silver 360 Spider and from Tom to the finance woman I had all positive experiences with FerrariLI. I was referred to them from a family member who had picked up a Grand Tourismo from them and other family that they service their 08 F430

I am hoping it was a simple case of a bad day on someones behalf or some type of miscommunication.

as with all conflict there are two sides maybe someone from FerrariLI could chime in and make right wherever the disconnect is/was.

...forget about that "bad day" nonsense...the customer is always right. especially making a purchase like that. all the man did was make an offer on a car, a car that foli did not own nonetheless..

Call Gianni he is the sales manager and I'm sure he will give you the opportunity to negotiate. This other person sounds inexperienced in sales.

I have no business ties to them, but he has always been nice to me on my trips to their old and new store over many years.

I can't imagine any exotic dealer being in a rush to get someone off the phone. Cripes what else do they have to do. Winter approaching, yeah let's go buy a sports car.

Dude, it's a consignment car. Stop wasting your time and move on.

Leave a number with the sales manager and forget about it. The 430 market is dead. Until the owner gets realistic, you might as well slap yourself silly.

Yes, I know, but I was willing to go to close to the asking price and the guy that owns the car has no clue I called and am interested as the salesman said he was not even going to tell the owner about my 'wholesale offer' And I'm not in a position to sell the car without the dealership as I need them to take two other F-cars on trade (doubt I could sell a 360 spider and 328 fast enough at the right price to offset the tax savings I'd get by using them as trades.)

Just out of curiosity, have you tried calling the Ferrari dealers you have relationships with and asked them to help you find a car?

I feel your pain. An unrealistic seller will continue to ride the market down and end up with less dough when the car eventually sells.

Send your proposal to the sales manager and hope for the best.

Uh, there are three cars involved and the salesman is blowing you off?

I'd talk to the Sales or General Manager asap.

Before getting ahead of yourself you might want to talk trade-in value. They are going to low ball you so bad on the 360 Spider and 328 that even if the asking price came down on the 430 you would still not do the deal.

Trust me, dealers do not want expensive inventory right now....they know where the market is headed. I would be surprised if they gave you anything over 75k on the Spider, and that might still be a stretch.

I'd agree. In this day and age, dealers selling >150k cars should be serving you coffee and donuts and roll out the red carpet for you. Imagine if they treat you like this before the sale, what will they do for you afterwards? I'd say write a letter and move on!

To update all of this, like someone told me, the dealers DO read this board and Greg was very quick to PM me here and to email and call me apologizing for the whole thing. From my standpoint Greg made a standup move and all is cool with me. Having said that, it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting the car because while we did agree on a number for the car, the trade numbers just aren’t there (65 on my 01 360 spider, 20-35K (a big variable on the 328 without him seeing the car). I toyed with the idea of trying to sell both the F-cars myself, but I REALLY hate the idea of selling a car. I’d rather eat it a bit on a trade, but not eat it this much.

    65k for an 01 360 Spider? Wow....

I understand dealerships need to make money, and who knows what the agreed upon price was on the 430, but come on, that is a lowball number. The dealership would be making at least 20k+ plus on reselling that spider!!!! And I don't even know the specs/condition of your car but I feel comfortable saying that!

As I stated previously, I think that was going to be the biggest hurdle to overcome. You can sell the cars for more then that privately, but agreed its a pain to do so...

+1 Its bad enough they want you to pay full retail for the 430 but they want to bend him over on his trades as well. You know damn well that 360 would be listed in the 90's as soon as he left it. Why not buy the car for 80, sell it for high 80's low 90's quickly, gain a customer and sell some cars. The need for Fcar dealers to bang you out on every deal makes people not want to do business with them at all. Instead of making a few bucks now they are making zero off this. Great move. List the cars up on ebay for great deals and it shouldn't be all that much effort to get them sold. Post the specs of the two cars you have here as well, you never know who is looking here.

This is the second thread I have read this morning where I have seen people indicating dealers offerring low ball proces on 360s (spiders in both cases). I'm looking for a 360 spider onw and check ebay daily.

Is there a problem with starting a "Here's what the dealer will pay me, anyone want to beat it?" thread where people considering trading in their cars can post what the dealer offered and see if anyone here wants to top it?

    Joba,

Stick to your bread and butter, fastballs and sliders, try not to pitch above someones head and you wont have to worry about a fair price. ^.*

I think everyone here is too concerned about auction pricing and How Dare these dealers try to make money off of us.

How many here work for money? Earn Money? I am in no way a dealer but watch the car markets as most do looking for deals.

Why wouldn't a dealer offer 65k on his Spider. 65k out of his pocket. Lots of them on the market. Clean it, Fix it, Market it and Store it. Most likely they are looking at the historicals. Wouldn't anyone in business. How long will I own this car? How much will I have to spend to market it. How much do I have to pay the salesman to sell it. To take 65k sit on it for 6 months and ask 85-90k makes perfect sense. Sorry guys they are in business as well.

If you want auction pricing get a license and go.

Forget the fact that these dealers are getting slammed with calls these days with EVERYONE including myself lowballing their cars. These guys have investments. That's it. They've got 100's of thousands of dollars sitting and looking to get their own return.

Isn't this what we all do in business. Hope for a return. Should this dealer make 4% because someone said it sold at auction for $XXXXX no way. Dealers are no different then all of us. Except in the end I believe this Dealer maybe got tired of someone offering 20% under their asking. You don't think it's happening everywhere.

We are all screaming that the economy is crashing but it has slowed it's crash. Lots on this board are looking for cars. Therefore there is a market for these cars. Somewhere between offer price and what many dealers are asking there is a market still. I agree nothing as strong as the past few years.

I've watched many cars over this last 2 year stretch and have been lucky with some of my purchases. I've lowballed many guys and completely understand why they are not willing to listen to any of these offers anymore. The Owners of these dealerships are just protecting their investments.

I've been fortunate enough to spend some quality time behind the wheel of many of these sportscars and would say now is the time to pounce on these things. You guys talk about 175k for a 2006 430 Spider roughly and wow what a car you get for that value. New Porsche 911 Turbo's sell for that number fully loaded as a convertible. My Love for Porsches is deep and I have a few but they don't compare at high speeds.

The Value in these cars is huge right now. I hope for OUR country's sake people start seeing the value and spending again rather than hoping for the entire bottom to drop out.

good luck OP with your search on that particular color combo. I say jump when you can and enjoy the car...the few grand you might save in the long run will never make up for the few bucks you lost waiting 6 months for the better number.

These cars are fun fast and furious play with them hard and in the end you'll never remember you paid 10-20k more than you really wanted to.

    my 4 cents
