Can't find history discussion category but here's a history question

I try to keep up with C. Shelby history and I have read a lot about the three times he was interviewed for a race driver position by EF, but I am a little unclear on why Shelby was so buddy-buddy with Enzo's son, Dino. I have a couple theories. One, that Dino was probably already failing in health then, and Shelby, who had rhumatic fever as a child and spent several years in bed, sympathized with him because he had been sick himself. Another is that Shelby thought, if the old man died, then Dino would be taking over and it would be nice to know the new owner of Ferrari (though if Dino was already ill, this contradicts the first theory).The last would be that Shelby thought it would irk the old man if he knew that Shelby, who he had cross words with, was buddies with his son. I haven't read any of the Enzo biographies (I was given one at Ferrari but it was in Italian) but wonder if anyone has read of Dino's friendship with Shelby.
