The driver's side won't release with either the regular handle or the emergency cable. In fact the cable doesn't give at all. I have pulled pretty hard on it with no movement. I don't know whether I can pull any harder.

I'm also not quite sure of which direction to pull it.

Does anyone know how to get the bonnet open any other way?

There should be white looped pull string under the left side of the dash. look for it.

It's the emergency pull string. it should have a picture in your manual.

Well if the emergency cable won't do it (when pulling straight twards you) then take the left front wheel off, and remove the access panel in front of the door hinges. In there you can get to the cables and pull them.

Before you take anything apart, try standing in front of the open door and lifting up on the bonnet with your left hand while reaching in with your right hand and pulling the release. Should work fine!

Last resort you may be able to gain access to the mechanism by removing the wheel wells and reaching up to the mechanism. I seem to remember there was access when I was fixing a drainage problem for the roof system.

You will probably need to do both sides since there is a latch at each corner.

No both the emergency and normal cables come through the left side wheel well twards the door.

Thanks, but I tried that with no success. I'll try to pull the wheel tomorrow, either that or get a can opener.

I'm curious to see what is the problem with the emergency cable. It doesn't give a millimeter no matter how hard I pull.
