About a month ago I was driving and couldn’t get my ‘02 575M past 2nd gear. It’s an F1 w 14,000 miles. Reverse, 1 and 2 are fine, no noises, clunks or otherwise. Just won’t upshift past second. Oil level is correct and a new microswitch and oil pump have been installed.

    Any thoughts?

F1 issue. When it happened to me, it was a loose potentiometer. Once tightened and the faults cleared, worked fine. Need someone with an SD2 or equivalent to diagnose and see exactly where the problem is.

Ian- They are talking about the clutch position sensor, not an F1 potentiometer, although that sounds like what their original problem may have been. The F1 potentiometers are actually pretty easy to swap.

Are there two bolt-on F1 potentiometers on the 575, not like the horrible single unit on the 355F1? i.e. selection potentiometer and engagement potentiometer?

Ian- There are actually 6 potentiometers in the 575M, called solenoids in the WSM. EVF for the clutch, EV1 and EV2 for engagement, and EV3, EV4, and EV5 for selection. The first three are proportional and the last three are on/off.

Ah, ok.. Now I'm with you. I've never heard the solenoid valves being called potentiometers before. Potentiometers usually convert position into electrical signals. Solenoid valves convert electrical signals into hydraulic flow.

Ian- Who knows, I may have it screwed up.

Not sure on F1 but I know on Egear the dealer computer could run the shifter through all the gears and record the readings of each sensor. Doesn't take much in these cars, on my Murci it was a slight binding caused by the actuator being a hair out of alignment. Honestly though it could be a switch, pressure issue... really anything
