    Dear Ferrari Gurus:

The refurbishment of the 512TR dash is nearing completion, and after weeks of restoring the hacked wiring harness and a full day adjusting the glovebox door to perfection, I have met an impasse with the steering column. I can't get the splined end to feed back into the column. It slid out easy enough. Is there a secret trick to reassembly of which I am unaware? I thought this would be a no-brainer. HELP, please...

Is one spline bigger or smaller to locate the two in relation to each other?
So that it will only slide in at one particular rotation.

That's a possibility (I do not know for certain), but absolute alignment will be required. Additionally, it appears that there might be a compression collar on the end of the outer portion, so a bit of force may be required.

Good luck, and please do post the solution/results for the benefit of others.

    BTW, the dash looks great!

At the end of the steering column is a piece that seems to screw on, maybe some sort of compression collar, but the spline slid out with minimal effort.

DING DING DING, we have a winner.
Thanks, Randy. Upon close inspection there does appear to be a compression collar on the end of the column. All splines are identical. It took to modest taps witha dead-blow hammer and the column slid together. It slides easily up and down the splines until it comes to the end, and then some resistance is met. Another Ferrari mystery solved and another victory for FerrariChat!

As you can see, the electrical connections all seem to be OK and the rewired dash pod is functioning with all systems go.

    Thanks again.
