    Hey Folks,

I was curious about the F430 and wondered if it was really even possible to buy one at sticker from any dealership? I hear that the cars sell for more then sticker in the used market, so why would a dealership even sells theirs for sticker?

I hope I am not breaking some forum rule by asking this. I have been registered here for a while, but only recently decided that I want a ferrari, instead of all these vipers.. (Plus my Vipers break too much.. lol).

Do you basically have to know someone to get a new Ferrari? My CEO (Hedge Fund in Chicago) has an Enzo and a selection of other F cars. He doesnt know me from Adam, but if talking to him might make owning a new F430 possible, I'd entertain doing it. He obviously has an above average relationship with Ferrari im sure :).

    Thoughts?

I really would love a F430 spyder, but probably a F430 is more reasonable for my budget.

    Thanks!

    Jon

PS. I live in the City of Chicago, its why I am asking here instead of in the broader general forum, as I dont want to get flamed, and I thought maybe you guys would be nicer, since I am a local :)

To the best of my knowledge, i believe New Ferrari's are only available by ordering them. Also, i think there is a 2-year waiting list too. That is what happened to my cousin, he wanted a new 2003, they told him there was a 2-year wait, so they found him a like new 2002 with low miles that someone was selling....

Great thing about Chicago, we have a couple good Ferrari dealers here. I have only dealt with Continental, but i hear the same with Lake Forest that they are great to deal with. Give em a call, i am sure they will try to help you find what you want....

Just a comment on your CEO owning Ferraris ..Id talk to him just for the fun of it. You both seem to be into cars , both work in the same company ..Im sure he is passionate about Ferraris !

Well, to some extent I have. He hosts a lunch meeting for his employees from time to time, and if you register quick enough, you get to be 1 of 15 or so people who get to have lunch with him. So I got one and went to it, and it was great to watch him do his magic (fielding questions from the group of us). He made a comment about how level headed the firm was as a whole, and specifically made reference to guys not filling up the parking garage with Ferraris.

    It was kind of funny.

So after the lunch was over, I emailed him, and thanked him for his time, gave him feedback about how impressive his off the cuff responses were to the group and our questions, and then I responded to his comment saying that their is nothing wrong with a few Ferraris in the parking garage, and rumor has it that he owns a few himself.

He emailed me back (I was suprised as hell) responded back thanking me for my comments/feedback on his interactions with the group and then said something about the rumors just might be true about the Ferraris ;-) Actually I know they are true, as the Enzo was a huge topic of discussion for a while around here, when I first joined.

Anyways, He was cordial with me and we emailed a few 1 liners back and forth for like 2-3 emails, and sent him a photo of my 06 Viper that was recently bought at the time, and he commented on how nice it was. But I really I felt he was just being a good CEO and keeping up relations with employee's. Not his fault, he probably gets emails from 1/2 the firm and he has a job to do, and its not dealing with the help.. lol (kidding a bit there).

So like I said, he doesnt really know me from Adam, but if ordering a F430 required his intervention, I wouldnt mind asking as I can always find a new job :) Cant always find a new Ferrari :)

As late as even last year Ferrari dealers were not aloud to charge over sticker for new cars even the Enzo. On some like the Enzo the dealer had the first right of repurchase.

I heard a rumor at the dealer that Ferrari North America was going to allow dealers to start charging market prices. Another words over list for new cars. If you have got enough money you may get to the front of the line quickly.

Thats exactly what I want to avoid, having to out bid other people here in Chicago. There are plenty of Directors, VP's, C level members, that I cant compete with. So then my wait will be even longer. :(

Don't confine your search to Chicago, there is some price variability in different areas and often the dealers in a particular area simply get together and set their local price for both new and used cars.

Generally, you will pay $30 - 40 over for coupes, $70 - 90 over for spiders. You can approach the dealers and see what they are willing to do but be prepared for some wheeling and dealing - often they sell the new cars to their buddies then split the premium with them.

Yeah, a Doctor friend of mine owned a 360 and he was talking about how he wanted a 430 and was wondering how much he was going to have to give the dealer/sales person on the side to get one..

Anyways, any recommended dealers I should call and see what kind of options they have for me?

    Thanks!
