I will be visiting cape cod next week (June 26 - 30) and need recommendations for a place to stay. I will be with wife and 9 year old and here is what we are looking for: nice place on / close to beach, close to restaurants etc, nice beach, good seafood restaurants ( I will be eating logsters every night) and some cool bars (on the water if possible). And, oh yeah, no bed& breakfast, - I don't want to stay in someone's residence!

One place I stumbled upon on the web was Ocean's edge resort in Brewster that seemed pretty nice, but it is almost 2 miles from beach :(
Anyone have any recommendations for places to stay and must do things on the cape? I also planned on driving to Provincetown and going over to Nantucket by boat maybe..
    thanks

Go to Martha's Vineyard. Take the Ferry. It's worth the half hour to get there. JMHO PM me if you want some hotel recommendations at MV.

Go outer cape. From about Welfleet out to P town.

Better ocean beaches, but you're not going to find any hotels that are walking distance to the ocean. Oh, and bring a wet suit, the ocean water is damn cold up there.

Now on the bay side, you're gonna have better luck renting a small house, but there are a couple of hotels near Provincetown on route 6A as I recall.

Can't remember names, but I bet their's a Provincetown or North Truro info center on the web.

Do remember than Provincetown can be, um, interesting for younger kids. (My wife, retired Fed, made several arrests there in her heyday.)

But, you have to do the dune ride. You hop in an old jeep with the tunes tour guide, go for a fun ride, like you're in the Mojave desert.

Also climb the tower in P town, hit the downtown area, and STAY THE HELL OUT OF MOST OF THE BARS. Good salt water taffy in mid town.

Go to Welfleet harbor, take a boat ride. Hit the weird used book store, and have a soft ice cream.

Fishin' from the cape's not too bad either.

All the ocean beaches that far out are Fed beaches, pay a fee, go for the day. The bay beaches tend to be private, associated with whatever property abuts them, but there are several public beaches too.

I don't know doodly squat about the inner cape. Only drive through it to get to Truro or Welfleet, where we've done the summer vacation thing a couple dozen times over the years.

If price is no option, go to Chatham Bars Inn, do Google search. In beautiful Chatham, right across the road from private beach, downtown is less than a mile away. The best, but not cheap. Good luck.

My brother has a nice home in chatham that he rents out, in case you're interested. Its large in a nice area. I saw a yellow 360 drive past the chatham bars inn on sunday. Chatham is very nice.

If you stay in Brewster it is a nice little ride along 6A to Corporation Beach in south dennis. Its one of the 2 nicest on the cape.

Definately go to Nantucket (I'm there right now). When the weather is nice, there is no place better.

If your driving in the area be prepared for some heavy traffic, especially on weekends!

Check out the New Seabury Resort in Mashpee. On the beach and offers everything from rooms to villas.

Second vote here for New Seabury. Easy to get to (just over the bridge) and situated on a nice location with a really big, gentle, private beach. My wife and I have started renting a house in Mashpee (the village that contains the New Seabury resort) for the last couple of years. Great place for kids- there's a "village center" with ice cream shops, live music, et cetera during summer evenings.

If you are a Cape Cod regular the place can be a little trite- sort of like an Epcot Center rendition of what the Cape is really like- but for just getting your feet wet you can't beat it. Just about everything you need in one place.

Big recommendation for "La Cucina Del Mar" in Falmouth, too. Perhaps 20 minutes away- great Italian food on a main street nicely laid out for walking around, window shopping, and buying taffy and stuff.

    (We'll be there in August!)
