I am looking at a job in Cape Girardeau in a couple of weeks, and I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with the area. I am having difficulty getting enthusiastic about living there. Care to share opinions/knowledge about the area?

My dad grew up in Sikeston (about 40-50 miles south of Cape), and my grandparents lived there until they passed away. AWFUL. simply a terrible place to live, IMVHO. Unless its your dream job-don't do it. You're three hours from civilization, if your idea of civilization is St Louis or Memphis.

Oh, and the Limbaughs in SE MO are like the Kennedy's are (or were) in Massachusetts. ugh.

Thank you. I appreciate the advice.

Good talking to you, Steve. Next time we need to talk more about the cars.

Cape is not bad if you want a slower pace of life. It is lacking the amenities of a big city. Its a college town and you can reap the benefits of the University nearby (some culture). The cost of living is very low and you can actually live pretty good down there on a modest salary/ or save alot of dough while living there. It all depends on what your looking for and your priorities. If its nightlife and the single life and you are over 25, your kinda hurting. You are right bewteen Memphis and St. Louis for air travel hubs. If you want to save a few$, and raise small kids its a good place to start with small town values and its relatively safe. Don't wander too far out into the rural areas unless your comfortable. Farther south in the bootheel is not a recommended place to live (beware). It has been a growing city. Best of luck.
