I fitted capristo brackets to my 430 with standard exhaust system did test run of 40 miles all fine and seemed smoother but had over 200 mile run yesterday and now have intermittent rattle . I don't know if I have them to tight or to loose have readjusted I can now just move the springs by hand when cold is that correct ? How have others decided on correct tension ?

When I reinstalled the Capristo on my 360, Capristo said to tighten the spring bolts to 16nm. It seems pretty tight...but that's what their installer said to do on my unit....you could email them as well for the specs on your car.

I'd be interested in this recommendation for a 430 as well. I too have the rattle.

I thought this was maybe the cause of my rattle so I tightened them quite significantly but no Change, I'm afraid of preventing them from moving

but I do know that the more I tighten them the less it rattles, I guess I need a torque wrench

I thought it was my tail pipe brackets but now I know they are ok having taken the diffuser off

but thinking about it, there is a lot of longitudinal support on the spring brackets as once the gearbox supports are removed it there is nothing else from where the the headers are bolted to the motor

I might have the same issue. I get a "buzz" vibration around 3,000 rpms at partial load or cruise. WOT and the buzz goes away.

I've tightened and loosened the bolts on the top and bottom of the springs but haven't found the sweet spot (i.e. cured the buzz). I don't want to over tighten for fear of defeating the purpose of the brackets in the first place.

I guess another point to know (as stefvan & I will attest) is that Capristo supply the brackets with locking nuts that are impossible to remove without using a splitter once installed

Also your exhaust is now mounted to the body and it sends the vibration through the chassis !!

I had mine on for a week before i took them off, I think they are a step in the wrong direction but i know i am in the minority here.

I will also try putting a washer between the Capristo brackets and the Chassis Mounts on the rear cross member to see it that helps reduce the Vibration going through the Chassis

I have washers between brackets and don't have vibration just intermittent rattle at low RPM, the system is working as the hot and cold positions are very different .

Yes thanks wlracing / Mountain Man / Trent etc this is the solution, many of us have mounted like me the large washer after the bracket (pic1), instead of between the cross member and the bracket (pic2). All my rattles & vibrations have now completely gone, Hallelujah, as this has been seriously troubling me for months. Makes sense as this the contact point between the chassis and bracket is much smaller AND critically better aligned.

The only problem is that if you need to change this, like me, you need to take the bracket springs off (supporting the tailpipes with a jack) but as the Capristo nuts deform you will likely need to cut the bolts and replace them

still no torque wrench but I will give you a measurement of the amount of exposed bolt thread below the nuts

I have 180 mm (1.8 cm), just less than 3/4 Inch, exposed bolt thread below the spring nuts

Thank you for that ! I think I have more than that below the nuts , I will measure ASAP and hope bolts are all the same length .

Guess I should note that my spring bolts are no longer OEM, so it may not be a relevant comparison, my apols

Measured mine at 1.25 inches and adjusted to 3/4 inch before reading this but not able to try car down the road yet . Maybe the gap between the washers is a better guide if bolts are different lengths I now have between 1/16 th & 1/8 inch between washers and can move tail pipes with a little effort such that the washers make contact with each other ?

not sure exactly what you mean about the gap between the washers. My tail pipes are pretty solid

RichardCH - can you tell us what bolts and nuts you bought when you replaced the original spring bolts and nuts?
