I have a Capristo Sound Level 2 on my 95 GTS. The previous owner had it installed years ago along with Hyperflows. I recently added Tubi headers. This is my second F355 and I don't feel like the bypass valve is opening at higher RPM. On my last car (years ago) I could hear a major difference when it opened but on this car I dont.

What should I be looking for to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance.

The Capristo fails open so if you don't hear much of a difference at higher rpm's it could be open the whole time. If you have insufficient vacuum pressure to close the valve, same thing - it remains open.

After re-reading your post you might have the OEM bypass valve - in that case check to see if you have sufficient pressure to open the valve.

Does the standard Capristo setup come with a bypass valve or do you have to buy one?

It doesn't come with a bypass valve. You would use the original unless you bought the Capristo version.

My previous GTS had a crack in the vacuum line to the bypass valve so that's something to check. Otherwise I'm unsure of how to diagnose the solenoid/etc.

Is there any benefit to buying the Capristo version? I know you can get a remote which I dont care about. Just curious if there is any other benefit? Either way I plan to take mine to the shop soon to have it tested.

The Capristo is cheaper (approx $1100 vs $1500 for OEM) and fails with the valve open vs OEM which fails with the valve closed. That benefit is debatable. In any event it seems most bypass valves are replaced because of the brass bushings rattling not because of a total failure.

Fixed! The bypass valve was working fine. Found the vacuum check valve on the LH manifold had failed. Replaced and the scream has returned.
